He was close to kneeing him in the head?
Unless the fight has already been called, I believe Sera would've been penalized and Spratt would've been given time to recover. Sera would've received at least a warning, or worse docked a point for the round. I don't think you can be disqualified without a first warning unless the incident is totally blatant and unsportsmanlike. If the fight ends as a result of an illegal knee I'm not sure what UFC rules that, especially in the show since the bouts are exhibition only. I don't know if it would be a no contest or a straight disqualification.
In this case, if Spratt couldn't recover from damage Sera had done prior, I think the fight would've been a win for Sera, despite the illegal knee. Eye pokes, groin shots--stuff like that happens. I don't think they'd take the fight away from him at this point, especially since Spratt has no heart anyways.
When Mike B did it in the finals it was one of those situations where his opponent was in the process of going down to a knee or getting up from one. It's a bit of a grey area, really depends on what the ref sees or thinks he sees. Different feds have different rules on knees and kicks to the head of downed opponents. I think it's a good idea to prevent guys from taking advantage like that. Shows more respect, with the UFC trying to get away from it's bareknuckle roots.
This reminds me of a fairly recent KOTC match in which Joe Stevenson won the LW championship. I can't remember the guy he knocked out but he did so with a vicious knee to the face when the guy was already down. I hate JS anyways but it was still a bad way for the fight to end.
