MICHAEL BISPING is hot favourite to be named as one of the coaches on the new series of The Ultimate Fighter.

Season nine of the hit reality show - which sees mixed martial artists compete for a contract with the UFC - sees a change in the format with UK fighters taking on their American counterparts.

And TUF 3 winner Bisping is the fans' choice to coach the British stars entering the house later this year.

SunSport's Mark Gilbert said: "Michael Bisping is the only man the UFC should choose to coach the UK team on TUF 9.

"His charisma, fighting style and energetic persona make him the perfect choice to lead Britain's best upcoming mixed martial artists against the Americans.

"I've no doubts that Mike will be up to the task and he will prove to be a terrific coach if he accepts the role.

"He is the most exciting fighter on the UK's MMA scene and this opportunity could elevate him into the upper echelons of the UFC's middleweight division."

The UFC have not yet offered Bisping the coach's role on TUF 9 because he is scheduled to fight Chris Leben at UFC 89 at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena on October 18.

But SunSport understands Dana White will immediately hand the British star a contract to appear on the show if he overcomes Leben next month.

It is believed Dan Henderson will coach the US team, with the TUF 9 finale featuring him in a clash for the No1 middleweight contender's spot against Bisping, which could take place in December next year.

UFC commentator Mike Goldberg confirmed TUF 9: Team USA vs Team UK is on during the Ultimate Fight Night broadcast earlier this week.

Try outs for the show begin on October 20, and SunSport will be interviewing some of the wannabes attempting to break into the world's biggest MMA organisation later this year.
Kind of an odd pair. I think Andy vs. Bisping would have made more sense.

Oh man please don't tell me this is true. I really was salivating over the possible Hendo-Marquardt match-up. Bisping makes sense and I am honestly glad they aren't tying up title holders for this go 'round.

With Ace being at LHW who will they match up with Nate? Plus I see Okami getting screwed in this. They will probably bump Okami for this which I think sucks.

I know most people here don't think Okami has any shot against Silva but I do. And no it's not based on the DQ so drop that argument.

I am not sure the timeline on this but I sure hope neither Okami nor Marquardt gets screwed on this. I am hoping there will be time for both Okami and Marquardt to get a title shot before the winner of this fight which seems likely.

With Silva fighting Cote in Oct he could most likely defend
against Okami in Jan/Feb and against Marquardt in May/June. That should allow time for the show to tape, Bisping and Hendo to fight, and then recovery time for them to setup a fight with Silva/Marquardt since Nate will take the strap :thumb02:

The UFC is paying Hendo alot of money and need to promote him, he lost his 1st 2 UFC fights and then beat a fighter who is not known to casual fans. Making Hendo the coach makes alot of sense IMO. Bisping is obviously a no-brainer to coach the UK team.

I don't see Bisping beating Leban though, so who knows. If he does, Hendo is going to give him the beating of his life.

Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson to be Coaches for "The Ultimate Fighter 9"

http://www.themmapost.com/2008/09/michael-bisping-and-dan-henderson-to-be.html

The Sun is reporting that the most likely coaches for the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Team USA vs. Team UK", will be middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson. Bisping, the UFC's popular British star, will have to beat Chris Leben at UFC 89 first.

If this comes to fruition then whoever wins the finale fight would probably get a shot at Middleweight champ Anderson Silva, but of course alot can happen and this is a long ways away.
cool

Well honestly I think this is kinda messed up for Maia who has better wins at 185 then both of these guys but w/e it's about ratings and Bisping vs Henderson is interesting since Bisping is better then he was at 205 at 185 and Henderson is worse at 185 then he is at 205.

I don't agree at all, he's got an excellent skill set to beat Anderson with, and he was executing for a round, then started to bang in round 2 and his shit fell apart from there.

Executing a good GnP game plan is an excellent way to beat Anderson, alternatively, someone with world class jiu jitsu, but who also has good takedowns and can take a punch en route to the takedown would probably also have a good chance.

A standup battle with Anderson is just a stupid choice by anyone at 185.

It would be some serious BS if Henderson gets another title shot if he were to beat Bisping (assuming they fight). He would have only won two fights since he lost his last title shot. There are plenty of other guy's who are much more deserving of a title shot.

Bisping I can see getting a shot if he beats Leben and Henderson since he would have won 4 straight but Henderson in now way deserves it.

I think Bisping will beat both Leben and Henderson, I think he will destroy Leben, TKo 2nd Round

Henderson is going to be difficult but I think Henderson will not try and take it to the ground, Bisping will pick him apart, this will give Bisping the time he needs to train for a guy like Anderson Silva, which I don't think he'll win, but has a better shot than anyone else at 185...

But if the Henderson/Bisping fight is in December of next year. Will they still both fight in the meantime? That's a looooong layoff, more than a full year. And if its for the #1 contender spot, I hope the UFC will allow other number one contenders to shine before that. Do they expect Anderson Silva to not defend his title for over a year after he beats Cote? I would find it odd as he is the #1 fighter in the world and he just recently asked Dana White to make him fight more. Also Silva already mentioned he's not interested in having a title shot at 205 before Lyoto, he says that title belongs to Lyoto.
