To be honest, being from Liverpool (same as Faulkner) you do find that some Americans have troble understanding you unless you slow down, id imagine its the same for people from the north east (Pearson)

Come to think of it I could see people with heavy southern accents having trouble with a Liverpool area accent and vice versa. Just a guess but two heavy accented people might have trouble understanding each other.

If you mean southern England, no we sound a lot more normal.

Woops sorry I forgot the states part. I meant southern states accent. Some of the people down there (like Georgia, Alabama, etc) have very heavy accents.

I must admit it does come across a tad bit insulting when they put English subtitles, over an Englshman, espacially considering they never do it when a foriegn person is speaking English on there.

They mustn't think we can speak OUR own language properly, or at least that's how it comes across.

why is it so difficult for Americans to understand the way other cultures speak English, yet other cultures can pick up on Amercian dialect English easily.

Maybe US should create their own language, since it's so difficult to understand English?

I only liked the subtitles because I was watching in a loud bar and that was the only time I knew what anybody was saying. When I watched it later at home, found the subtitles useless because they were understandable to me anyhow.
