Kimbo Slice will be fighting Roy “Big Country” Nelson in what some call one of the most anticipated fights in Ultimate Fighter History. Many of you probably already know who Kimbo is, even if you aren’t a hardcore MMA Fan. His career really started when he began posting videos of his street fights on youtube. He was all over the internet, and he quickly gained a massive following. Just a few years after his debut on the internet, and a couple years after he gained massive notoriety on youtube, Kimbo was given a chance to fight against the former WBO (world boxing organization) champion Ray Mercer on live Television. Kimbo proved to the world that he was ready to take it up a notch from street fighting to MMA after defeating Ray Mercer via choke within the first round. Fast forward a year and 2 more fights, Kimbo Slice faced off against MMA fighter Seth Pretruzelli, which many believed was a great matchup and that the fight would decide if Kimbo was really up for the challenge of becoming a fully fledged MMA’er. Slice lost within 14 seconds by TKO, giving his critics all the reason to tout that Kimbo was not ready for the MMA. Some short time after, Dana white, the President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship told Slice that if he wanted to compete in the UFC, Slice would have to prove himself worthy by competing in the Ultimate Fighter like many UFC phenoms have done in the past. Kimbo agreed, and has been training on the Ultimate Fighter 10 TV show for the last few months
Kimbo holds an MMA record of 3-1-0 with 2 KO’s. Roy Nelson, the man he will be squaring off with today, holds a record of 13-4-0 with 6 KO’s. Although Roy is quite a chubby looking gentleman, don’t let his gut fool you. He is definitely going to be a formidable foe for Kimbo.
My thoughts? I think both Kimbo and Roy lack on cardio, however I believe Roy will be winded first. If Slice brings in his powerhouse punches like he usually does, and if he can avoid being taken down, I think he has an excellent chance of dominating this fight. I haven’t seen much ground game from Kimbo, but he has been vigorously training up his ground game for the last few months which will help definitely be a huge help against his formidable opponent. If Kimbo can keep the fight standing up, he has a considerable chance at winning this fight in the first round. Call me coo-coo for cocopuffs, but I just don’t think Roy is going to be bringing his A-game tonight.
