Challenges for fight control

On the earlier seasons of the ultimate fighter (I think seasons 1 and 2) instead of alternating or winning to gain control of who fights, challenges were used to determine what team gets control. If any one remembers the challenges didnt always involve contact or direct techniques used in fighting. One was 3 fighters from each weight class hung from a circular set of monkey bars and as a team you had to be the last team with a fighter on the bars.

To me these challenges were entertaining. Personally I liked watching the heavy weights trying to pull eachothers socks off. I liked seeing fighters in other environments.

Does anybody know why they chose to switch from challenges to other means?? Also does anybody else want to see the challenges return in future seasons??

If I recall correctly fighters were send home when their team lost a challenge. That sucked.

I do, especially because it gives these guys something to do besides just train and drink. And I don't remember anyone getting sent home due to losing a challenge... in fact, I think that would defeat the purpose of the show. I think you're mixing Survivor in with TUF, Hammerlock.

The challenges also rewarded fighters who were in good shape and who had been training hard. Alot of the challenges required good cardio and strength to win. I remember one where heavy weights I think they had to carry many heavy loads up stairs or something like that. So i think the challenges also reward what team has been training the hardest.

I'm actually thinking of TUF 1. Jason Thacker and Chris Sanford were sent home after losing these challenges. They didn't eliminate anyone like this after episode 3 though.
