Kimbo Slice dominates list of most-watched MMA fights

Quote:

Even though Kimbo Slice lost to Roy Nelson on Wednesday's episode of "The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights," the fight has been recorded as the fourth most-watched fight on United States televisions in mixed martial arts history.

Kimbo Slice currently owns three of the four top most-watched fights, according to MMAFighter.com. While his TUF 10 fight came in fourth place, he also has possession of the first and third spots as well.

Here are the top four, in order of viewership, including their method, date and aired television station:

1. Kimbo Slice d. James Thompson by TKO on May 31, 2008, shown on CBS.
2. Tito Ortiz d. Ken Shamrock (third fight) by KO on Oct. 10, 2006, shown on Spike TV.
3. Seth Petruzelli d. Kimbo Slice by TKO on Oct. 4, 2008, shown on CBS.
4. Roy Nelson d. Kimbo Slice by TKO during TUF 10, shown on Spike TV.

The Ultimate Fighter 10 episode, which aired on Wednesday, Sept. 30, drew 5.3 million viewers for the entire show, with an addition 0.8 million viewers tuning in to see the fight. That night, TUF 10 had the highest-ever ratings on the Spike TV network, with 6.1 million total viewers.

only cause most fighters that can draw those amounts of people don't fight on free tv...

edit: also two of the tope five most watched fights ever consist of some pretty embarrassing losses for him so i wouldnt consider it much to be proud of

Thats sad, maybe other UFC fighters should concentrate more on their body hair and forget anything they knew about MMA. Maybe more poeple will tune in.

This is a little ridiculous. As has already been pointed out, it's stupid to compare an event on CBS to an event on cable.

Still, in reality, the episode of TUF 10 drew better than Ortiz vs. Shamrock III or UFC 75.

Shamrock vs. Ortiz drew 5.7.

UFC 75 peaked at 5.93.

Kimbo vs. Roy drew 5.9 and peaked at 6.1. It was a huge fight, but lets not compare it to any events on CBS.
