TUF 3: Ken = Mr. Burns

I was watching a couple of episodes of TUF3 recently, and watching all of Ken Shamrock's antics as a trainer reminded me a lot of Mr. Burns in the Softball episode of The Simpsons.

Recall that in that episode, Mr. Burns first wants to recruit a team of ringers all of whom are now dead ("bring me better players... bring me living players!") Then he insists on hypnotizing his team of all-stars into thinking they are good players. Then he makes them drink an ancient nerve tonic, which gives one of them gigantism (I think it's Ken Griffy Jnr.).

Ken Shamrock, by comparison, doesn't bring a ju-jitsu coach, gives them a bodybuilder as a conditioning coach, doesn't do give cardio training, keeps getting them to goof off, doesn't turn up sometimes, and alternates between getting them to beat the crap out of eachother and taking it easy.

Actually, Ken may be nuttier than Burns.

he said that after two fights, thats all i think.

I think his IFL team will show how well he is as a trainer not TUF
That's fair.

I'm a relative noob, so, can you tell me, what kind of pedigree does that Lion's Den have? The only fighters from there I can name off the top of my head are Ken and Vernon White.

the lions den has not done well in the last few years but a few i can name off the top of my head is (correct me if im wrong)

Tra Telligman, Mikey Benett, Guy Mezner (retired but good in his day). I think even Travis Lutter is a part of the dalles chapter of the lions den.

Well, the Den is gone now, but they used to be the premier stable of fighters in the late 90's.

Pete Williams
Tra Telligman
Frank Shamrock
Ken Shamrock
Jerry Bohlander
Guy Mezger
Vernon White

These were all very good fighters. Mezger & Frank being the best(Though Frank became so much better when he trained with TK & Mo Smith(The Alliance)). Mezger was just a really good fighter, who was a great striker. When he had to, Mezger could work on the ground as well. Mezger got some screwy decisions against Sakuraba, Arona, Shoji, & Rogerio Nogueira, and held his own(And was winning at one point) against Liddell & Wanderlei Silva.

Ken Shamrock may be old, and broken down nowadays, but he was once a really good fighter. The Lions Den produced some really good fighters as well. These are 2 things that often get ignored.

Really? I didn't know that. I heard that Ken was thinking about getting some new guys, and making them fight in small shows in Reno, but nothing concrete. It'd be great if Ken was serious about becoming a teacher again. He just needs to get some other, well versed coaches to help him out.

Any news about Ken's IFL team? Is it going to be his new Den? I heard Vernon White was going to be on the team.

Lutter & Prangley were 2 other Den members, and former Den training partners. Prangley went to AKA, and Lutter's doing his own thing.
