TUF 2 Finale: Sanchez vs. Diaz

Thai TV is showing TUF2 at the moment- I turned on the TV this morning at 9am to find Brad Imes and Rashad Evans looking tired but otherwise doing a creditable job of knocking the crap out of eachother.

Anyway, then the Diaz-Sanchez fight came on. I'd seen it once before, but... wow! I was amazed at the ground game of both of them. So much mobility, so many reversals of positions, counters, and so on. I thought Diaz was excellent- every time Sanchez got past his guard for a second or so he was back in full guard again. But Sanchez was great, too- everything that Diaz did he seemed to have an answer for.

I really, really enjoyed that fight. Might have to get go and watch it again somehow.

This was my fight of the year for 05. Incredible ground war, and no wasted energy was spent. Sanchez was relentless, and Diaz was pretty composed, and worked off his back. This was the fight that opened up a lot of eyes in regards to Diego. This wasn't total domination, despite what anyone thinks. Don't get me wrong, Diego did win, but Diaz worked for subs, and stayed busy.

I'm still pretty pissed that TUF 2 hasn't hit the States yet.

People saw that as domination? I didn't see it like that at all. Diaz was great out of his guard with loads of strikes and submission attempts, and he never let Sanchez get into a really dominant position or land several really clean strikes. I think that Sanchez won it because he was so agressive and because he was able to maintain his attack despite the massive ju-jitsu repetoire that Diaz employed.

TUF2 not out in the States yet? That is slooow. Why not bittorrent? If you feel bad about it, you can always buy them when they are released commercially.

The judges saw it as domination, and I seem to remember people on other MMA boards saying Diego decimated Diaz. Diaz did do a pretty good job controlling Diego for the most part, and staying calm. He did go for a ton of subs, but Diego's a pretty slick guy. Diego did the most damage, and was able to stay busy, and go for the more advantageous positions. I wish a rematch took place, because it was actually a pretty close fight(Plus Diaz did some post-fight smack talkin', which was a natural setup for a rematch).

Sadly, they are very slow to release TUF 2 in the states. I believe Canada has it out in their stores. Another odd thing is that UFC 57 isn't released in stores, but that's another topic altogether.
