There is risk of dying from anything. The post stated that there was a risk involved in this particular method, and that people have died from it. Therefore, it should not be used.

I'm asking whether that danger is above and beyond a regular weight cut method of running, sitting in a sauna, etc., and what proof there is that it is more dangerous.

IMO there isn't, it's just JDS isn't used to big weight cuts because he is a relatively small HW and didn't grow up wrestling.

Weight cutting can be dangerous. Generally, you want a professional with the right credentials, involved. Lew Polley is a wrestling coach. He's not a personal trainer, a strength or conditioning guy who has invested a lot of time and energy into fully educating themselves about the negatives involved with different methods of cutting weight.

I don't blame JDS for sticking with what he knows. Filming a reality show isn't a good time to experiment with new methods?

In terms of losing water, it may be that the faster you lose it, the more unhealthy it is. If you drop weight slowly over a long period of time -- that's the most healthy standard. Losing a ton of water, very quickly, in a very short period of time is the most unhealthy.

When Lew brags about his fighter losing, what was it, 5 pounds in 10 minutes(something like that)? I think, shedding water super quickly isn't the way to do it. Doing it at a slower rate, over a longer period of time, is the way to go.

I could be wrong, though. I'm no expert. Mostly, I just don't like Lew's attitude and him trying to hustle the brazilians and make them look bad to try to look good on tv.

Maybe it was just coincidence, but team Dos Santos seemed to start losing a lot since Lew left.

This is exactly how I see it. It doesn't matter if Lew was right or wrong about the weight cutting, or this or that. Lew wasn't the head coach. JDS was. Lew was not in a position where he could take his own decisions - especially when they were against JDS' decisions.

This was a situation where JDS had to flex his muscle. Lew had all the chances in the world to adjust his methods to JDS', but he chose not to.

Neither GSP nor Rashad, current and former champs respectively, didn't have a problem stepping aside for a more experienced coach, racking up the wins and taking the credit.

Doesn't really matter though, does it? That was the choice they made. JDS made another choice.

The choice was JDS' to make, not Lews.

Fighting to win vs Fighting to entertain was one thing Lew went against JDS on, Lew wanted them to forget about putting on a show and just fight. 2 of the losses after Lew left the guys went against there skillset to show off there skills - to entertain Dana.
