Why was Jason Thacker on TUF 1?

I was just watching the first and second episodes of TUF. Just curious as to why Jason Thacker was on TUF 1? He never had a fight prior to the show and struggled with the training and that. I felt sorry for the guy tbh.

That's crazy, I was just thinking the EXACT same thing. I jus rented TUF 1 on netflix and am not sure why they didn't just let him quit when he wanted to and bring in someone hungry with some fights under his belt. Then Thacker calls out Chris Leben for urinating on his bed after he saw the episodes and gets knocked out and never fights again..
I also forgot how much of a douche Chris Leben is, but if Leben and Koskcheck fight again I'll definately already have enjoyed the prefight hype by watching the season over.

I also started rewatching season 1 again yesterday, exact same thing crossed my mind. "Talented unknown MMA fighters" he hadn't even had a fight. :s

Yeah I was confused. Thacker did end up fighting Leben, but Leben ground and pounded his ass. To date, that is his only fight.

Yeah, Joey Scarola was Matt Serra's "prodigy" from season 4 (I think?). He ended up totally embarassing Serra by pussing out in his first fight. He was a pretty-boy BJJ black belt, but was apparently too scared to get hit. It's been a while, but I think that's right. Anybody else remember Joey Scarola? I only remember his last name because I called him Joey Scarotum...

In response to the original post, Thacker was there because TUF was a new show and they hadn't figured the format out yet. Now they have an established methodology for tryouts, then they make guys fight to get into the house, and the whole reason for that is to weed out guys like Thacker.

I had forgotten ALL about Kenny Florian beating Chris Leben. That's hilarious in hindsight, a 145lber finishing one of the top guys at middleweight.
