TUF 15 will be LWs and/or WWs - Tryouts start in December

Quote:
The new version of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ is on its way and fighters in the lightweight and welterweight divisions are up to bat.

On Wednesday, the UFC announced that open tryouts will be held starting on Dec 5 at Texas Station in North Las Vegas, and for those that cannot attend applications can be filled up, but must be submitted no later than Dec 1.

All fighters attending the open tryouts must have at least 3 professional fights to their record.

The tryouts will kick off in December, and sources speaking to MMAWeekly.com have confirmed that production for the show is expected to kick off in March for the new version of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ that will air on FX.

With the show shifting to FX, the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ will air on Friday nights with live fights taking place every week. After the 13 week schedule, the final fight will be held a week later with the coaches from the show facing off just a week after that.

While the weight classes for the show are listed as welterweight and lightweight, many past seasons have tried out a few weight classes and sometimes the UFC has chosen both or they may opt to only showcase one division once the fighters are whittled down and selected.

Wow.. That is big change..

Fighters now go to the camp to prepare for the finals. Lot of them are way better at finale because they benefit from being in camp usually with their coach. So this time final fight will win fighter who will be better prepared before the show.

Thats ok with me. Different setup, but fair.

The thing with coaches seems really strange for me. They need to go through their preparation and will have less time for coaching. Seems not fair for some fighters. Could easily take them out of their game. That really take them out of their routine.
I dont aprove that! (like it matters to someone)

Awesome, because if there's one shallow division in the UFC, it's LW.

Please, it's not like anyone from TUF goes on to do anything in the UFC anymore. Who has become a legitimate top tier fighter from TUF since Maynard? A few have made it into the top 10, but not much else. And every division is overflowing with fighters already, so I'm not concerned about the few guys that might add.

I think it's time for a Strikeforce TUF.

Cast a ton of guys from different divisions of Strikeforce, and the best get UFC contracts.

I said quite a while ago that TUF needed serious overhauling because there are no real prospects left that no one knows aboout. Not to mention TUF is pretty much for drama not talent anymore.

I started a thread with a few ideas I had. They actually are going to have live fights now, which is cool, but here is what it said.

Changes to TUF
Obviously TUF needs some work. Does anyone think that the UFC should stop wasting money on guys, 90% of whom will probably do nothing in the sport or even crack the top 5?

Throwing this out there....why not change TUF to a already UFC prospects show. Think basically a tournament for a title shot(i.e TUF 4) or at least a way to clean out some of the muck at the lower end of the roster.

Think about it, better fights, possibly bigger names and then you tip the odds that the winner will actually make some noise in the UFC and sell PPVs, which is the ultimate goal.

Think about what something like that could do for the logjam at the top of the LW division right now.
Also this would be a great way to introduce fighters to casual fans. Think about what a guy like Phil Davis would do on a TV show like that, people would love him. His notoriety goes up, sales go up. You no longer have to try to figure out a good way to sell a talented prospect to the mainstream audience. If they watch him for 12 weeks on TV and they like him, chances are they'll buy the PPV. It's just taking the "coaches fighting" concept and multiplying it by 16.

I would'nt say that TUF has no talent. This season has some really good talent. Maybe not Champion material but maybe in time.

I think a WW season would be great. And these changes will do TUF well.
