Sure, I'll confirm it for you. Seeing as how I work in the Video Game industry, I'll be truthful about it.

Microsoft has dropped all software support for the original XBox. With the X360 around, they want everyone on the new platform. With the planned "selection" of backwards compatibility, you should be able to play a choice set of original XBox games on the X360.

Yes, they've halted production of the old systems, peripherals, and have notified all the publishers not to make games for it anymore. Any that are still in development will get finished, but nothing further. So get a hold of the hardware while you can.
