Can't think of 10 and in no particular order -

Psycho Mantis - MGS - So not particularly hard but really fun and at the time unique, he told you what games you've been playing, moved your controller across the floor and at one point has you switching controller ports to avoid mind control.

Sephiroth - FF7 - First time heading into this I was very under-equipped and he was a bastard to beat.

R-Type - been a long time since I played but it was a hard game all round - the boss I remember took me ages to beat.

Sagat - SF2 - By completing the game on the hardest difficulty from start to finish, without continuing, you were awarded with something or other (can't remember now). That bastard Sagat sent me back to the beginning about 20 times before I finally beat the SOB.

There have been quite a few difficult boss battles, but the one that stands out to me is against Nightmare, on Dante Must Die difficulty, in Devil May Cry. A brutal fight that took many attempts, and was extremely satisfying after I finally bested him.

Dark Bahamut in FFX and Ruby weapon in FF7.

Yeah, Sagat was a bastard sometimes on the highest difficulty, especially because Balrog and Vega were always so tit.

I never could figure Ruby out by myself, had to consult a walkthrough for that sob.

Ruby from FF7 is probably the hardest boss fight I've ever had.

I don't really have a top 10 though as most bosses in games aren't that difficult, in fact during games (other than RPG games) I tend to find the harder moments of the game being certain areas with waves of enemies, rather than the one on one boss fights.

Yeah when that ruby would punt players off your line it was maddening, made it pretty much a loss and forced me to many times say, "Well great, Gail." Emerald weapon was no slouch either but the tactics to beat him held up 100 times better. I remember the Temple Gate owning me a lot to while I was mid leveled in the story. Omega Weapon in FFVIII is a decent challenge as well as Ozma in IX. Belius, Ultima and Elidibus were pretty nasty in Tactics.

The final double boss fight on Ninja Gaiden was also maddening. If you died you had to start at the beginning of the stage. Drove me nuts and only actually beat that game a handful of times.

Battletoads was hard not because of the boss but the stupid vehicle levels. they were such horse shit, Turbo Tunnels, Volkmire's Inferno and Clinger Winger...

Top Gun - Landing on your own aircraft carrier was the hardest boss of all time.

I always had more trouble with Super Macho Man then I did Mike Tyson. I could never dodge the multi-spin punch enough times it seemed like.

I'd like to add Ornstein and Smough (two bosses in one) from Dark Souls. I almost broke my controller on my first run through the game when I got to that boss.

I rarely "rage" at a game, but that boss was straight bullshit.

This. I rarely rage at difficulty, it's more horse shit things in the programming.

Lol takes me back to 8bit and 16bit era's. Platform games.. OMG I still don't like platformers for that reason. One missed step due some dodgy physics, collision detection or camera angles and it was back to the beginning!

I've literally thrown disks of bedroom wall in rage. Hudson Hawk was my worst 'nerd rage' experience - stamped that bastard disk into oblivion.
