Star Citizen

If you're PC gamer then this is the game you've been waiting for. We've always known about the technical superiority of the PC, but been frustrated that its capabilities have been held back by console ports.

Not any more. Star Citizen is 100% PC exclusive, and you're going to need a kick arse rig to play it. Finally a game that will push top end PC to their limits.

Check out the videos below, you'd be forgiven for thinking its CGI, but it's not its actual rendering from the game.

PS4 and XBONE owners, don't despair... it's just another 7-8 years before the next gen is available, then y'all will probably have a system that can run it!

What will your total investment be to run this game on high settings?

I like MMA less because of this forum

Lol fark knows mate. But I'll updating my PC towards the end of the year and expect to spend around Ł800-1000 on it so I guess in the region of 1500 dollars, but that will see me playing all games on ultra diminishing to high/medium over time (4-5 years).

I tend to upgrade my PC once its performance level reaches medium for games... currently its high/medium.

Fair do's. I don't mind spending the money though, as a web developer I also appreciate the additional performance benefits a top PC can bring.

I'm still using my PS3 so it's not all bad with me.

Also my high end college PC can't run UDK without crashing every single time so they aren't ALL that much better .

We had the same problem with the uni computers. They were pretty high spec but after you load them with software for the mulit-media students, computer science students, ICT students, animation students, graphic designers, CAD students, engineering students and god knows whatever else students... then you are left with computers overloaded with software which impacts their performce.

Our Uni computers would take like 5 minutes just to load up, and another 20-30 seconds just to load photoshop. My PC takes 24 seconds (yes I've timed it) to load and about 2 seconds to boot Photoshop.

Yeah sounds like ours.

My new laptop takes around 30 seconds to load up, with not a lot on it, and about 10 seconds for Photoshop.

The problem is, being a PC exclusive game, it's quite disappointing that it's not actually taking advantage of the hardware to actually innovate and make a new type of game.

This game isn't some new breed of game or some crazy new idea that can only be done on very high end PCs. This game very well could be done on any next gen console or mid-range PCs right now, it just won't be as pretty.

Gaming is going to get stale very quickly, it's already going that way. Developers were saying that they needed new hardware (new consoles) to innovate and bring us new gaming experiences, yet what do we have? Another Infamous? Another Uncharted? Halo 5? All they are doing is beefing up the graphics and keeping the same stale, done to death gameplay, and Start Citizen is no different.

The game is going to look gorgeous, no doubt. However, it's very disappointing that they aren't using the hardware to actually innovate or bring anything new, they are just using it so you can have an excuse to buy a new video card. Which is fine, there's nothing wrong with that necessarily, it'll probably be a fun game if you haven't played a thousand space sims before. It's just...meh, just ranting at this point.
