pushing the leg and stopping is you trying to move and the opponent blocking your movement.
as far as major/miner, my personal recommendation is to build a habit. im sure you know the major minor is either a 1/4 rotation or 1/2 rotation. get into the habit of for minor going straight down/up and turning 1/4 and for major's, go into a diagonal position and do a 1/2 rotation.
this personally helped me in controlling the movement i wanted.
