Bravely Default is a really good classic FF style RPG (think FF7-9) with interesting tweaks.
For example you can set how often the random encounters happen, from 0 to almost every single step. This allows you to grind at a really fast pace if you want, or if you want to go through an area and not fight for some reason, you can turn it off. It makes leveling up/dungeon crawling interesting. For example I wanted to go back through a dungeon because I didn't go down a certain path and I figured there would be treasure there, so I turned off random encounters so I could rush to it quickly and get back out without having to fight. It really impacts the pacing in a good way.
The combat system is also really enjoyable, advanced Job system with the Brave/Default system also in play. Story is good, characters are solid (voice acting isn't that good, but it's a JRPG what can you do), etc.
All around great game so far (about 8 hours in). This is the kind of RPG that I miss from square.
