I know that feeling. I want to get a PS4 and the Last of Us Remastered. Unfortunately, I can't spend that kind of cash at the moment. Paying bills suck.
I might be in the minority but you're not missing out on much, I've not touched my PS4 much in the last couple of months because there's just not a large selection of games. GTA, The Last of Us, Watch_Dogs you can all get on PS3.
The only games I have that are next gen only are Killzone and EA UFC and both were disappointing. You'll be better off waiting until next year when the games really start to roll out, same thing with the Xbox One.
LL is right Bonnar, you're really not missing out on much at the moment.
I've had my PS4 since launch, and I've literally played 1 game that is exclusive to PS4 that I enjoyed. Every other game you can get on last generation consoles or PC. As for Xbox One, Forza/Dead Rising 3 (which is now going to PC, but it wasn't when I bought it), Killer Instinct are 3 very solid games for that system. With that said, it's still not worth buying the console for at the moment. However, give it some time as there's some really good games coming in the future.
Honestly, the only home console worth purchasing right now is the Wii U. It has quite a big library now full of games you can only get on the Wii U, and almost everyone of them is top notch and of great quality. Not only that, but games like Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors among others are right around the corner. My Wii U gets 10x the gameplay time than any other console I have right now.
