WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Leonard Garcia Going to 145 in the WEC
Thanks to mmamania.com for the goods:
Quote:
Leonard (Garcia) is such a great fighter and a strong guy, but he walks around at like three pounds over weight. He had to eat the morning of the weigh-ins the last time. We’ve got to bring him down a weight class where he’s going to be more effective…. We talked after his last fight and 145 is where he’s going to be. I’m really looking forward to proving ourselves in that division in the WEC.
-Trainer Greg Jackson talks about the move his fighter, Leonard Garcia, will soon make to the 145-pound weight class in the Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) promotion from the UFCs 155-pound division. “Bad Boy” is perhaps best known for his gritty losing performance to Roger Huerta at UFC 69: “Shootout” … not his submission win over “Monstah Lobstah” at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 Finale.

I loved his fight with Huerta. It was clear he was gonna get overpowered at 155, so I think this is a great move. He loves to bang and I think at a lighter weight, he'll be even more exciting than he has been already.

I don't see him being able to beat Faber, Curran, or Pulver. But I think he can beat most of the 145 divison.

I don't really see him making any waves, but the guy loves to scrap, and I wouldn't mind seeing him scrap with guys like Curran, Micah Miller, and Jens.

Wow I forgot about my boy Micah Miller. Also I think Rani Yahya at his natural weight would beat him but rumor has it he is fighting with K-1 now.

Rani really needs to learn some striking, or how to set-up his takedowns. A talented grappler, but I don't know about MMA fighter. Hmmmm, didn't know he's rumored to be with K-1. I'd sort of like a Tokoro vs Rani fight.

Oh, Garcia won't contend or anything. Definitely didn't mean that with my original post. But 10 pounds lighter, his scraps are gonna get that much better. I'd love to see him in there vs. Faber, Curran, Miller, Pulver. He wouldn't win a single one, but he also wouldn't ever give up and each fight would be an exciting show.

Thats what I'm anticipating. He's that scrappy now........10 pounds lighter will be good for him. Go as light as you can while still feeling healthy

I think its smart of him to move down as stated above he would get overpowerd at 55 but i could maybe see him getting a shot at the tittle.

It is a good move for him. Probably won't do anything serious in the divison but still a better 145lber than 155.
