World Extreme Cagefighting welterweight champ Carlos Condit (21-4), the winner of six straight fights, will likely next defend his title against veteran Texas fighter Carlo Prater (21-4-1) at a February WEC event.

The news comes from FiveOuncesofPain.com‘s Sam Caplan, who reports that WEC officials are in the process of finalizing the bout.

The fight will actually be a rematch three years in the making.

The 23-year-old Condit defeated John Alessio in March for the WEC’s vacant welterweight title. The Pancrase and Rumble on the Rock veteran then made a successful title defense with a first-round submission of Brock Larson in August.

He’ll now take on Prater, a five-year veteran who’s fought for a variety of mid-major promotions, including Art of War, Absolute Fighting Championships and Freestyle Fighting Championships. He owns career victories over the likes of Melvin Guillard, Spencer Fisher and — at a 2004 Fightworld event — Condit.

At the September 2004 event, Prater scored a first-round submission victory (via triangle choke) over Condit. It was the first loss of Condit’s career.

As of now, details for the WEC’s February card are not yet known.

However, the Zuffa LLC-owned WEC organization holds its next show on Wednesday, Dec. 12. WEC 31 features three title fights, which include title-holders Urijah Faber and Paulo Filho, and airs live from Las Vegas on the VERSUS network.

I like this fight. Prater's a tough, solid fighter, who will give Condit a competitive fight, however, Condit's been on a roll, so I don't see Prater beating him.
