WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

I thought he beat Gomi the 2nd time too And by stud I meant he was a ranked fighter.

^I'm far from a Gomi fan, but he won that 2nd fight. Aurelio didn't really do much at all. It was close, but Gomi took it.

Gomi won the second fight. Seriously, he needs to start using more leg-kicks, as they looked really good and effective in the Aurelio fight.
Aurelio was buttscooting most of the way. Getting your legs chopped up by kicks won't win you the fight.

Did you see how much smaller he was than Garcia, its like that with almost all those Japanese guys. They just dont cut much weight, and they get tooled when they come over here. IMO opinion all those sherdog, mmaweekly rankings need to be adjusted. North American and Brazilian fighters are so much better that its not comparable any more.

Then on the flip side what does Yoshiro Maeda say about your theory? He KO'ed a very game Charles Valencia with a body kick at the half way point of round 1. I haven't seen tthe video but it would seem he disproves what you're saying, a little.

Fair enough, I only saw that fight once and I was rooting for Aurelio so maybe that swayed my decision.
And Valenicia losing wasnt really a surprise to me. He is solid but not what I would call a stud. Throw in the fact the guy has about as much charisma as a lamp shade, so I was kinda happy he lost.

Would you say Garcia is more of a stud than Valencia? I would say they are about even and by your standards and theory the Japanese guy should have lost or am I not following you here?

In regards to the topic, i really don't know what to think.. I have most of the guys who fight in Japan in my top 10 but how would they cope in UFC?? We just don't know, and probably never will.
P.S nice win for Garcia, he's a good man.

Its tough to judge Garcia because he dropped down from 155. But judging by that performance I would say he is better at 145 than Valencia is at 135, so yes. Im not saying all WEC or UFC fighters would beat Japanese fighters. But as a whole, I feel guys that fight in Japan are a tad overrated. And I was a HUGE Pride ballwasher. But I think I have seen the light.
Garcia looked awesome and in great shape at 145. He is a HUGE FW and will be a force at that weight.

Jdun11, how do you feel about Hatsu Hioki? I'd say that he's one of the best 145'ers out there and he's Japanese.

Garcia was way to small for 155. I think this might just be more a case of a good fighter dropping down to a weight much more suitable to him, and catching a guy with his pants down. I still also think people underestimate the whole flying across half the world to fight in hostile environments thing.
I do agree though the rankings are little iffy. Its really just so hard to judge since most of these guys will never fight each other. At least with Elitexc and all these MMA organizations coming together to make good match ups we get to see cats like Melendez(who I do think is a top 5 LW) match up against good Japanese fighters. Some I think really are deserving of the rankings and others are riding on past accomplishments when Zuffa was ignoring the LW and lower divisions as a whole.
Im not gonna comment so much on the lesser weight classes since Im not the biggest expert on them but I will say that guys like Kawajiri, Ishida, and Gomi could come over and do some damage in the UFC. I agree about Sakurai, but I dont think it has to do with skill hes been kind of pigeon hold because of his weight which really sucks because I think he would be bad ass if he could actually make 155. His stand up is great, especially his leg kicks and counter punching. Hes also got alot of skills off his back and his chin is solid.
Props to WEC though for actively pursuing the lower weight class guys from Japan, I figured they would just mostly ignore them.
