WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

With Takaya losing....

I think it only makes my point stronger that those Japanese guys in the smaller weights are all overrated. Not just the Japanese guys but the guys over in Japan that feast on these guys and get so much props for doing so. Takaya was supposed to be the real deal and was a top 10 FW and he got CRUSHED!! Did you see how much smaller he was than Garcia, its like that with almost all those Japanese guys. They just dont cut much weight, and they get tooled when they come over here. IMO opinion all those sherdog, mmaweekly rankings need to be adjusted. North American and Brazilian fighters are so much better that its not comparable any more.

Takaya's actually a solid fighter, though, and I don't feel he's overrated. Garcia was just the better guy that night, props to him, but Takaya's not overrated, at all. Shooto 145'ers like Carvalho, Lion, & Tamura are anything but overrated.

I hope this doesn't turn into a, "Japanese fighters suck" thread, because really, they don't.

Honestly Damone, I never thought that. But now I am really starting to think so. But not just Japanese fighters, Im talking all fighters that fight in Japan. I think the only one that could make the transition to the UFC is Kawajiri. Sakurai is good and fun to watch, but too big for LW and too small for WW. People say he is a top 10 WW but I dont see it. Too many big solid wrestlers that would put him on his back in the UFC.

Negation, I dont think Kid sucks. I just think he is overrated.

Edit: JZ got skills, I think he could do some damage in the UFC. He just wouldnt beat BJ or Sherk.

He is overrated by some, but then so is Faber.

I was asking about LW because I was then going to point out Gomi and Ishidas solid records against Brazilian guys like Azeredo and Aurelio.

But look at Aurelio in the UFC, he doesnt look like the stud he was over in Pride. He looks like a good fighter but not an elite one. Azeredo is a nice fighter, but once again he's not an elite fighter.

Gomi is obviously a top 10 fighter. The guys resume is awesome. Its just he like 2-2 in his last four fights and hasnt faught in a year but yet is still everyones #1 LW. It doesnt make sense to me. Ishida I wasnt sold on until he beat Melendez. I believe I have Gomi ranked 4th and Ishida 5th in my rankings.

Idk, it pisses me off that the likes of Gomi are not coming to the UFC to fight(because I think Gomi would kick some heads in), but then, it makes no sense at all that he would. Japanis his home, he gets paid well there.

I understand why he isnt leaving to come here. I dont have a problem with it really. I think he would do well in the UFC. But I dont see him beating BJ, or Sherk. Edgar might give him some problems, but Im not sure if he could take Gomi.

I think the UFC made amistake in buying Pride. They thought they could eliminate Japanese MMA and thats just stupid. The fan base is too big and there are too many fighters. DREAM is just going to be Pride II.

In all fairness Aurelio wasn't really a "stud" in PRIDE either. He went 3-3 losing to Ishida, Mishima, and the rematch to Gomi. His only big win in PRIDE was the first fight with Gomi, which I think Gomi went in underestimating him. Aurelio is 1-1 so far in the UFC, so his record in both organizations is .500.
