WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

I just think its funny though, and looking at it makes me think that the reactions are solely based on the fact that it is Filho. If GSP had been diagnosed with clinical depression and postponed a fight, people would be upset, but they wouldn't call him weak or anything. Hell, somebody on this Forum would probably start an e-mail version of a "Get Well Soon" card to give to him.
But no one like Paulo's personality and I think that has a lot to do with it.

Oh for sure, who the person is plays a big big part in this.
And GSP did say he had some phsychological issues after the Serra fight and people flipped.

I have no problem with Filho. I just think that is a weak excuse for any athlete not just MMA. If everyone stopped everything they did because they were depressed and did not feel like working today the world would have already been to a hault. Kinda like when people have a problem child they always seem to have some chemical embalance these days and, when really its just a popular excuse.
Sorry if I upset ya bud...

McFedries lost his mom and still showed up to fight Cote. I don't see the point in this rematch, the pics of Sonen in that armbar tell enough.

Damn, Filho has a depression... It is astounding he managed to win his last fight imo with that condition. D
Depression can take all of your energy and motivation away from you to the point that you dont care about anything and wont do anything. A pro athlete really needs motivation to wake up every morning to train so this surprises me. Jens Pulver, I belieive, also has or has had a depression.

If he's been diagnosed with depression than that's sad news and even though I don't like him I'm sad to hear that and I hope he gets help.
If he just feels depressed and has decided not to train than that's a damn shame and he needs to tough it out.

bbjd,
you're right some people say they are so depressed but they just mean they feel a bit sad, but not actually depressed. That is two totally different things. If you are diagnosed with depression, then you really need help. I would assume that a fighter like him needs to have some serious problem as a depression is, to keep him away from fighting...
