WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Wow that sucks to hear. Depression can be a lifelong thing so I hope he gets the help he needs so he can come back strong. I am glad he postponed the fight because he has said in the past it is really, really difficult for him to make 185 pounds and battling with depression could make that impossible for him.
Get well Filho!

Wonder if his personal issues had anything to do with his last fight with Sonnen. He pretty much has to train perfect, otherwise there is no way of him making it down to 185 pounds and doing so in a healthy way.

Thats what I was going to say. I might be in the minority but I'm kind of excited for the Marshall/Stann fight and kind of glad it is the main event now.

I have serious anxiety and depression issues. I can tell you it can make it almost impossible to do anything let alone train for a fight. He needs the proper medications to stabilize the chemical imbalances in his brain. It can take some time to figure out which ones are depleted however and antidepressants take a while to begin to work.

200% correct man. I have also be fighting the same fight for a few years now. I can honestly say that i respect Filhos decision of not fighting, when your depressed life sucks work sucks, every becomes a blur to me it seems. Hopefully he has enough friends and family to get him threw it.

As others have said already in this thread I my self have recently been diagnosed with depression, and before medication I didn't feel like working out, do school work, or go to wrestling practice, or really much anything. My grades started slipping, I was losing weight because of not eating and losing muscle mass, and I couldn't putt full effort at any of the practices or pretty much anything. I'm on medication for it now, and it is better for right now.
Depression is something that can really mess with you and can really unmotivate you to do nothing, I feel where Filho is coming from.
It's hard for someone who doesn't suffer from depression, to really understand depression, that I understand, but you guys have to realize it isn't something that you can't just "rough out" for some people. Some people can probably do stuff more normally, while others are a complete mess and need serious treatment for their chemical imbalance, and need not only medication but counseling as well, depression isn't the same for everybody and it varies. That is just my 2 cents.

Sorry if I sounded harsh but I lived with someone my entire life who suffers from depression and has made numerous suicidal attempts, literally walking in on her bleeding in the bathroom at times or covered in a mess of prescribed meds and vodka in her bedroom. Calling ambulances and setting up clinic treatment with her doctors became as common as getting a haircut and till this day I still dread weekend nights and my heart and stomache drops everytime I get a call after 12am no matter who it is. Seeing how this is our first times hearing about filho like this I thought this was an isolated case and can't help but avoid handing out sympathy when I have no idea if this has been a reoccuring emotional battle for him when like in most interviews he can be using a word like "depression" and we can be taking it "literally". I understand there are variances in people clinically diagnosed but we don't even know that yet and I'm sure if this is as serious as it can be we'll be hearing more about from various sources and maybe some of our stances will change as will mine.

Oh, I didn't know that.
But you still gotta feel bad for someone with depression, no matter who they are.

Depression is scary man. I met my girlfriend 2 years ago, and a little more then a year her mother was diagnosed with depression. She went from one of the happiest, talkitive women to a mere sloth that doesn't do anything but watch television. It's sad to watch and takes it's toll on the family.
But with the right support, I'm sure Paulo can get back to where he used to be and find himself again.

If Filho is struggling with depression he shouldn't be fighting. It is a serious illness, not a joke that you can just "suck it up" like some misinformed people think. I hope he isn't gettting pressured by his agent/WEC whoever to fight so much that he makes a poor decision.
