WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

The new battle between the champions of the WEC to 83kg, the Brazilian Paulão Son, and American Chael Sonnen was postponed. The fight, which was scheduled for March 26, in Las Vegas, was moved to June. "I was not in a good time, I had problems with depression, I am raising now, and the Americans were forcing me to fight now. I was not motivated to train, not training right, then decided comply with the contract and the fight was moved to June, "revealed Paulo.

Wonder if his personal issues had anything to do with his last fight with Sonnen. He pretty much has to train perfect, otherwise there is no way of him making it down to 185 pounds and doing so in a healthy way.

Depression....is that a serious reason to back out, I mean damn if you can't get your mind right to train then you do not need to be fighting. I think this is a weak excuse to postpone.

I know depression is serious, but other people have fought through worse when they are main eventing. He is doing the right thing imo, though ppl won't respect him for it.

...odd and disappointing...
I guess the only thing worse would be for him to go ahead and fight Sonnen and lose and then blame it on depression...

dude depression is a serious thing...i have battled it on and off for 4 years and it isnt something you can just suck up and go along with...sometimes you need medication, rest, and or counseling to get through it. it is a chemical inbalance and if not treated bad things can sometimes happen...he is smart to push the rematch back if he is actually depressed, however it could possible be a copout (considering the fact that a lot of people use depression as an excuse not to do something)

 awww poor Fihlo...
I think there's a larger, more employment-embarrassing reason behind this.

Wow...people bashing him for being clinically depressed. You guys oughta be ashamed of yourselves. Depression is a serious thing and you can't just "snap out of it". Its a freakin chemical imbalance in your brain and it can be absolutely debilitating.

I'm not really bashing the dude, just saying how he used to be so cocky, and now its kinda random that he's depressed.

I wasn't really singling you out.
I just think its funny though, and looking at it makes me think that the reactions are solely based on the fact that it is Filho. If GSP had been diagnosed with clinical depression and postponed a fight, people would be upset, but they wouldn't call him weak or anything. Hell, somebody on this Forum would probably start an e-mail version of a "Get Well Soon" card to give to him.
But no one like Paulo's personality and I think that has a lot to do with it.
