WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Doug keeps his hands up OK but when he swings he doesn’t cover up and leaves himself open on one side.
It looked like Brian’s reach threw him off quite a bit.
I think Brian survived that flurry and didn’t get caught because of his good defense and quick counter punches.
It will be interesting to see what his ground game looks like. I could see Brian Stann with some more experience making it to a top 10 UFC LHW level fighter.

I don't know if I would go that far yet. He definately has the mentality and the punching power, but your right we haven't seen any ground or really even a lot of stand up from him. Yes, he is strong and when he connects it's lights out. But, also he hasn't faced a real good striker either. Marshall was swinging for the fences. Honestly, I've seen better standup at local shows that I have from Marshall, lol. But he does have potential if he rounds out his game. Only time will tell I guess.

As I said, a huge win for the WEC LHW. Never said he is a top 10 top 15 LHW, just said a huge win in the WEC LHW division.
I wouldn't call throwing a perfectly timed hook brawling.
Marshall was brawling, while Stann kept his composure and showed us some nice boxing.

One very nice punch doesn't make that fight a boxing match. Stann was brawling with him he then threw a nice punch and caught him.
Also while I understood that it is a huge win in the WEC LHW divison I'm saying that doesn't really mean much. The WEC LHW divison has 1 guy who I would even call a decent fighter and that's Stann. In fact the best prospect in the LHW divison is moving down to MW so he won't even be fighting Stann anytime soon a All American Wrestler named Mark Munoz.

Stann striking improved for this fight. It was more technical than usual and his hands were kept up more often. He wasn't throwing sloppy haymakers, or just brawling, but was throwing technical punches in this fight. His training at Team Quest has noticable improvements in his standing. He also caught Marshall with some nice kicks and nice punches before the Knock out punch.

It improved but the guy is far from a great techinical striker. He is closer to brawler than techinical MMA striker at this point in his career.

Still no comments on the possibility of him getting taken down by someone versed in ground game and submissions? How you think he would fare?

Right now we have no clue because we haven't seen him down there.

Well of course I am. And don't EVEN get me started on how tough the Navy SEALS are.....lol.
But I stand by my statement that there is a definite mindset among the Marines that does not exist in the same way in any of the other services. And of course not every single Marine is the same but by in large they possess a quality that is unique to that service.
Sorry for taking this so far off topic.

The last time I checked the US Army had several airborne divisions, Army Rangers, Army Special Forces and Delta Force.
No one branch of the military has the market corned on elite units or special operations trained units.
