WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Carlos Condit Signs Contract Extension With WEC

Quote:
World Extreme Cagefighting Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit (22-4) has signed a contract extension with the WEC according to USA Today. Condit had just one fight remaining on his previous contract with the promotion, which is owned by the same parent company as the UFC.

Terms of the extension were not disclosed.

Condit has emerged as one of the top welterweights in the world with notable career wins over Frank Trigg and Renato Verissimo. He has not lost a single fight since mid-2006, winning all seven fights over the near-two year span. After defeating Kyle Jensen in his WEC debut last January, Condit defeated John Alessio to claim the welterweight title at WEC 26. He has since defended his title twice with submission wins over Brock Larson at WEC 29 and Carlo Prater at WEC 32 in February.

Condit is next scheduled to fight in August.

This was a no brainer since he is the champ.

Good news! Condit doesn't get the press as much as he deserves. Any idea who he's fighting next?

I would like to see Condit in the UFC as well . . . but only because I would like to see him fight better competition. It's a little hard to tell if he is as good as he seems becuase of the calibur of fighter he has been given so far.

Condit's proven he's a strong competitor and a solid champ for the WEC. There's no advantage for them to move him to the UFC, if he lost it'd only make the WEC less marketable and if he won it'd mean less fighters for the WEC.

He's in a great place right now... I'd just like to see a few more seasoned vets willing to get in there with the kid.

I'd like to see Carlos in the UFC myself. I think he could prosper in that environment. He's still young and he has alot of credibility to his name right now.

His ground game is impressive. And he is a fighter that draws fan attention. Some fighters just don't have that marketability.

I'd like to see him and Stann eventually make the move into the UFC.
