WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Huge News: WEC signs top prospects Rosholt & Hendricks
http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2008/07/...ler/#more-3973
This is very big news. WEC signing Team Takedown which is Johny Hendricks, Jake Rosholt and Shane Roller means they have 2 of IMO the top 10 prospects in MMA.
Rosholt is considered by many to be the best MMA prospect in the sports short history. The guy has wrestling credentials that no one else has had in MMA before.
Hendricks isn't far behind the guy was a two time national champ a three time finalist and also has a huge personality which is defiantly valuable seeing as he was booed his entire senior season.
Roller is a guy I don't think that much of. He is 27 and wasn't the same level of wrestler in college. However he could defiantly takedown almost anyone he faces.
I think Rosholt will do great at MW and if he can work on his stand up to be honest Filho wouldn't be a problem since there is no way in hell Filho can get Rosholt down. In fact I think he would at this point give Sonnen trouble as well because he can put Chael on his back.
Hendricks at WW will be a instant contender. Outside of Condit and Larson the WEC doesn't have many WW's and Hendricks would be a tough matchup for a guy like Larson who realies on his wrestling.
At this point I think Condit is too well rounded for Hendricks however Johny is devoloping fast. He won his last fight by D'arce Choke and is doing great in every grappling competition he enters.
I think Roller who is IMO a guy who could compete in the UFC but never make an impact will do ok in the WEC MW divison I would put him right behind a guy like Brian Baker.
Thoughts honestly to me this is a fun topic to talk about especially with all that depressing Rampage news out there.

BTW these guys are going to be on that annoying ass show Tapout that I will admit I watch sometimes on August 20.

I have no interest in watching them in the WEC. They should have held out for a UFC contract.
BTW: WHo is Garcia in your sig? I know everyone else besides garcia

I think this is good. These guys are early in their careers instead of putting them on undercards and UFN's why not let them headline on WEC and get used to being Top guys.
I think Rosholt might be a better fit for the UFC because the UFC MW divison needs contenders and with some seasoning Rosholt will be one.
But for Hendricks why send him into a stacked divison. WEC is a great place for him to get his name out there plus he is so marketable it's crazy.
Rosholt and Hendricks can walk in and be contenders in the WEC. And get used to the big stage before moving on to the UFC.
BTW Garcia is Marcelo Garcia world class grappler. Eddie Bravo calls him Jesus.

Very good news. I'm glad to see the WEC signing good talent.
I'm a huge WEC fan so I hope they keep this up. I can't wait to see these guys in action.

The thing is that the UFC is gay about moving guys over from the UFC. I just hope that they aren't stuck in the WEC forever.
Yeah I know who Marcelo is. Nice prospect list, I agree on everyone except Maia, I am not to high on him.

Yea I like the fact WEC has guys ATM who could compete and do well in the UFC at 3 different weightclasses.
AT LW Hicks and Varner IMO are both good enough they could compete with almost anyone LW excluding BJ.
AT WW Condit is a top 10 WW to me and Now with some seasoning Hendricks will give everyone in the divison the same problems Koscheck does except Hendricks is a better wrestler.
AT MW Filho and Sonnen would both be good UFC MW's and are both IMO better than Cote who might be in line for a title shot. And WEC just added Rosholt who is supposed to be the best young guy at Xtreme Couture.
OZZ these guys are both so young I don't think they will be willing to stay in the WEC for very long. Plus Hendricks in 3-0 and Rosholt is 4-0 none of them on very big shows. It's a smaller step up to WEC than to go from smaller midwest shows to the UFC.
Also I'm not as high on Maia and Dollaway as I am the rest of them. They were put in there so that when I made the Next gen threads I could put it in the UFC forum.

More News they might be debuting on the Sept 10th card and possible opponents have been found.
http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2008/07/...-sept-10-card/
Intresting match ups. Villefort has a good submission game and would be a great test for Rosholt. Serdyukov has 4 losses and 3 of them are against top guys in John Alessio and Jon Fitch. I think Hendricks submission game will look great in this mach up since Alex has been subbed before.

How dare you blaspheme against Demian? My boy Demian will slap a tight triangle on J-Mac and work his way up the UFC middleweight division.
Come on, if you don't find this awesome, you hate life.

I like Maia Wawaweewa. But IMO Maia really isn't even close talent wise to Jacare or Rosholt at MW. And Garcia, Gracie, Hendricks, and Velasquez are all IMO better than him as well.
But I think he is still one hell of a talent.
