WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Does Anyone Else Get Depressed When...
...You log on to the forum, and always see about 80 people viewing the UFC forum, and then maybe 1 or 2 viewing the WEC forum?
I know there's a pretty strong contingent of WEC fans on this forum because it's pretty much always the same people posting in this section (and that list of people is a fairly short one).
Is it that people see the WEC as inferior? Or they don't know how awesome it is? Or they don't care about the lighter divisions?
It just puzzles me, because the WEC has been on a huge upswing lately in terms of viewership and beginning to corner the market at FW and BW (as well as young, talented guys in the bigger divisions), but you come around here, and aside from the select group who always contributes to this section, nobody seems to care about it. Maybe I'm biased because I love the WEC, but it just seems like there's a disconnect that on a forum of (mostly) admitted hardcore fans, so few follow the WEC.

WEC is pretty much a stepping stone to get into the UFC, the way I see it. So of course the big show (UFC), is where the big events are and most the focus of viewers will be.

Yeah I'm just as interested in Affliction as UFC, but the UFC is at the top. Though I just go straight to 'new posts'

You can't judge the popularity of the WEC around here based on the amount of people viewing it. There is just so much more news and activity going on in the UFC than WEC, and that is what draws the attention.
A lot of people around this forum love the WEC including myself.

So basically of the questions I asked, you're saying that most people just don't give a shit about the lighter divisions?

WEC is F*cking awsome, they always have great fights and is very exiting,
I acually dont see it as a ufc stepping stone, because it is all about the Lighter weight classes. UFC has done a great job keeping it as a seperate entity.
But i have to admit I spend alot of time in the ufc section because there are always alot of things to discuss and alot of threads.
but 90% of the time when i go on the site i click "new posts" so i cna see whats happening in every section.
There needs to be more people in the DREAM section as well

I like WEC, but lets face it, there isn't that much news about the organization like there is the UFC

I love me some WEC. To me, they're the most consistent organization today. So many great shows, great match making, 145 and 135 weight classes, Jamie Varner being awesome. Seriously, I love it.
Plus, you have guys like Jose Aldo, Rich Crunk, Miguel Torres, Faber, Pequeno, Pulver, Garcia, Bowles and Maeda. Lovin' it. So lovin' it.

I just think a lot of people havent been exposed to it which is a shame. The WEC has been putting on extremely high quality shows for a while now. But I have no option to get the Versus channel through cable so I have to go to my friends house who has Dish to watch events (and even he has to upgrade to the highest package the day of the fights to get Versus )
If the WEC really wants to get to PPV they need a LOT more exposure like at least going to a basic cable channel.
But yeah its too bad more people dont appreciate the WEC because many of their fights are FOTY contenders. I still re-watch Varner/Razor Rob; man that was an awesome fight and I love Varner!

I do not have versus but it plays on sportscenter, they have some deal wored out with versus.
everytime i see it on I always wittness a graeat fight,
most recently it was Condit vs miura wich was an absolute war that went back and forth with amazing judo throws, Stricking, and wrestling, very under discussed fight
