WEC World Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.

Fabiano to debut against Tamura

The news was first reported by MMA Weekly.
Both Fabiano and Tamura are ranked as top ten featherweights, according to most pundits. The high-profile matchup has led some to speculate that the clash between the two could garner the winner a shot at the winner of the WEC 36 featherweight title fight between incumbent Urijah Faber and challenger Mike Thomas Brown that’s now set for November.
Fabiano, 10-1, is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and is currently on a six-fight win streak. Competing in both the IFL’s 145 pound and 155 pound divisions, Fabiano holds notable victories in his career against Bao Quach, Shad Lierley, L.C. Davis, Matt Fiordirosa, and John Gunderson. His lone loss was against the WEC’s Jeff Curran via decision in October of 2006.
Tamura, 12-6-2, has never fought for the WEC in spite of his reputation as one of the world’s best in his weight class. Competing primarily for the Japan-based Shooto promotion, the 28-year old holds notable wins over Rumina Sato, Takeshi Inoue, and Ian Loveland.
WEC 37 is set to be headlined by Miguel Torres defending the WEC bantamweight title against Manny Tapia. FiveOuncesOfPain.com was also the first to break the news that Johny Hendricks will be fighting Alex Serdyukov on the card in a welterweight bout with lightweights Shane Roller and Mike Budnik doing battle as well.

Fabiano is the man and he will be the guy to take Faber's belt.

Wow that is great news! I dont have Tamura as Top Ten (I ranked him at #12) but still that is awesome they are bringing guys over. I really, really hope the WEC continues to sign great Featherweights and Bantamweights now that they are collapsing the MW and LHW divisions.

I've got a boner while reading this match-up. The WEC is the best org today.
Wagnney should beat Tamura, but damn, Tamura's a top 5 145'er, and Fabiano is the guy who will beat Urijah Faber. This should rule.

I have a question, what are you guys going to do if Fabiano doesn't beat Faber? Because it seems like you want him to lose really bad.

Fabiano has the style to beat Faber, but if he loses, then Faber still has guys like Pequeno and Aldo. So far, he has 5 guys who are solid 145'ers: Brown, Wagnney, Tamura, Aldo and Pequeno.
I just don't care for Urijah Faber. I like Wagnney and would love to see him get his props. Faber's good fighter, but is overrated. Someone like Wagnney, a guy who can strike (Heavy hands) and has excellent BJJ, will be a tough match-up for Faber. Also, Wagnney won't be a walking corpse like Jens was.
Keep in mind that Fabiano has smoked some 155'ers with ease. Dude is legit.

Wagnney is a better wrestler and grappler then Faber.
I think Faber is overrated but I don't just think everyone will beat him.
Fabiano is a monster he is the perfect guy to beat Urijah.
