WECWorld Extreme Cagefighting is an American mixed martial arts promotion. It is the sister promotion to the UFC, both owned and produced by ZUFFA, with a focus on lighter weight classes and talent building for the UFC. As with its older and much larger sibling, the WEC uses the same rules as the UFC, but it holds its fights in a smaller octagonal cage.
Well there is one weightclass that is kinda a minor league promotion and thats the lightweight class! Otherwise the rest of the fighters are some of the best in the world!
I sure like watching Cowboy Donald's fights, but he couldn't hang with the UFC's talent without a complete TDD overhaul, and some better jab-dodging skills. I don't want to see him go anywhere until he takes the belt from Varner, or at least KOs or subs him.
Well I will give Sonnen some credit, he did tear apart one of the best middleweights in the world in his last WEC fight! It's unfortunate that he got a fight with one of the better middleweights in the UFC!
That fact of the matter is WEC lightweights just are not the same calibur of fighters as the UFC or other promotions. Its not like they have a Carlos Condit in their ranks!
I think Varner and Cerrone could do pretty well in the UFC. They both have solid skills: Varner has wrestling and good hands with KO power, Cowboy has great Muay Thai, good subs and a great chin. Most importantly, both of them are still young and have time to improve. Cowboy is 26 and Varner is only 24.
