Matt has had the belt for a long time, but like one day Liddell will eventually lose his belt so will Matt. I believe that some day is now.
1) Matt claims to be a more wellrounded fighter as he proclaimed prior to his fight with Royce but as BJ said he only does one thing. take them down and lay on them.
2) GSP is no new guy to the game he may be younger but he can hold his own when it comes to grappling matt may have the kimura on lock down but have you seen any other bjj besides that.
3) There is only one way Matt can win this fight. On the ground we all know that including matt and GSP. So they haven't even fought yet and Matt is telegraphing his take downs. GSP is going to expect and prepare he did good at defense last time they fought.
4) the Penn-hughes fight 2. Hughes might have stopped Penn but Penns rib was broken. Prior to that Matt could not even take Penn down and he sure couldn't out strike him. GSP boxed with Penn and held his own and took Penn down at will on several occasions despite the thumb nail to the eye lid.

You know i think gsp has every reason he can win this fight but matt hughes is an animal and when things dont go his way, he basicly over the course of a round or two makes them. i expect gsp to dominate the whole time but i woudlent be suprised if he gave matt everything he had, matt broke his will, and pulled a submission or gnp stoppage out of his ass.

Sorry dude but I have to disagree with you!

I agree that Matt does nothing but lay on his oppenents! For the second part, you have to remember that GSP lost to Matt in the ground game in thier first fight! Also, its probably not a good idea to compare GSP to BJ Penn! These are two completely different fighters! Just because BJ dominated Matt Hughes for two rounds doesn't mean GSP will win at UFC 65! Also, when GSP boxed with BJ, he was getting busted up! If GSP didn't go for the takedown it would have been a matter of time before he got knocked out!

I'll agree with Bonnar. I'll add this, Hughes is'nt the Champ for nothing, he gets guys to the mat and Mauls them and pounds them, He just wears guys out with his brute strength, I think Hughes will wait for his chance then he will grab gsp and get him to the ground and over power him....

Now anything can happen submission wise on the mat, but I'll go with the Champ till someone beats him, People like to see the guy who's been Champ get beat, Me?? I Like certain fighters but Don't have a FAVORITE, I Just think that in this situation hughes and his Experience & Strength and determination will win out, Again he is'nt the Champ because he's lucky.....

Have you seen GSP fight?? You can't compare a washed up hall of famer with an up and coming future hall of famer. GSP is a completely different animal. And if Matt is gonna lose in the near future it WILL be to GSP. They are the two strongest 170s in the world (Penn is very good but does not impose nearly the same physical presence). Skill level is all GSP, but I will give Matt the cardio aspect (even though GSP is in amazing shape and can easily go 5 rounds). Should be interesting regardless, but I'm definitely rooting for Georges (always rooting for the "underdog" unless it's Fedor, cuz then it's kinda pointless). :dunno:

This is a very close fight that will not be easy for either fighter. I dont think that GSP has the power to KO Matt, althought he is clearly better standing than Matt, I just dont see it being finished on the feet. I also dont see GSP subbing Matt with out doing some serious damage to Matt first. I think it will be a split desicion going to Matt because he is the champ. But we will see, it is almost here.

Matt Hughes' maintains excellent functional strength throughout a fight that he uses to wear his opponents down, and he's trying to improve his standup which leaves much to be desired. He's great at what he does...that is controlling his opponents on the ground pounding out a decision, TKO or submission.

By contrast GSP is light on his feet, can do damage from a distance boxing and explode at you with knees or unorthodox kicks on his feet. He's shown he's got an IQ on the ground as well defending against and submitting some of his opponents in impressive fashion. There's only one thing he lacked the first time and that is the right mindset. However, he won't suffer mentally this time as he did in the first fight.

GSP's prefight comments the first time where along the lines of "...I'm not afraid of Matt Hughes....I fight him like I fight everyone else.....I control my fears...." It was also evident in the way he fought that he did'nt believe in himself or whatever he may have been suggesting by his prefight comments and all of this culminated in one of the slowest armbars I've ever seen. By his own admission GSP was in AWE of Matt Hughes the first time.

Ever since then, he's been on a mission fighting like he's possesed. Even his prefight comments THIS TIME match his recent ring accomplishments. This time it's, "I KNOW I can knock Matt Hughes out....I KNOW I can submit him.....I'm going to be AGGRESSIVE and HUNT him...."

I've said a number of times before that GSP went home and kicked himself in the mouth after watching his performance in the first fight. I sat by in disbelief watching a tentative, uncertain fighter allow opportunity after opportunity pass by as Hughes was a second slower than GSP having to constantly reshuffle and reset his feet as GSP moved smoothly around him in circles boxing him.

In past fights Hughes' expression betrays him as he has never liked repeatedly being hit to the face or body hard and his first reaction always is to take people down.

With one or two adjustments this time around, I see GSP winning by knockout inside of two rounds.

GSP is the more well rounded fighter for sure. His stand up is better than hughes. Hughes just has tons of brite strength and can perform huge takedowns and is excellent at ground and pound. IF st. Pierre can avoid the takedowns like BJ did he will own the stand up battle. As for Matt saying he is going to knock GSP out thats just ridiculous. Does he think he is the boxing champ now or something after he won the standup in one round with BJ cause he was too tired to even move his arms. No chance he will knock out GSP. If he wins it will be by Ground in Pound TKO, or a kumora or something like that. If it goes to a decision and the fight was on the ground most Hughes will win, if its standing mostly GSP will win. If GSP get hughes on his back, I cant see GSP losing.

But all in all this fight could definetly go either way.

Again. The saying is. To be the man you've gotta beat the man... Do I think gsp can do it, sure!!!!! everyone likes to see a Successfull champ get beat, be it UFC, pride or sports, this is how it works, You become champ and beat everyone and then they root against you to lose.....

Me?? I'll stick with the champ <hughes> for now. He has beaten All comers and avenged his loss to bj, regardless of what some say,whoever they put in hughes's way, He beat!!!!! so until then I'll say he and his Experience,strength and determination will win out. although gsp has a great chance of beating hughes. My prediction is that gsp will start out strong and it will look like the fight is done. But then matt is gonna bounce back with a sub or gnp stoppage.

The sad thing is that if gsp loses this fight then he will likely not get a title shot again because he already lost the first time he had a title shot. That is how the ufc works, most recentley AA lost 2 title shots to Sylvia. So now AA will not get a shot at the title unless Sylvia loses his belt. So basically this is gsp's one and only shot, of course if he wins then there will be a third fight.
