I'm definatly going with Rich Franklin to win UFC 64, but I can't bet on it. I can't see his hand being healed %100. This fight seems a little bit premature and I think this might give Anderson an edge. I would not be suprised at all if Rich either hurts his hand or breaks it again. Granted, he'll probably still punch Silva with it if it's broken, but I will be very suprised if his hand holds up

He's had 7 or 8 months for it to heal, right?

Is that long enough for a hand injury to be ok? -Seems most fighters aren't out more than a year. I don't know, never broke my hand.

Yeah, USA vs. Canada was March 4th so he's had 7 months. I don't know how bad the break was, but I figured it must've been bad because he kept punching Louaseau with it after he broke it so that must've made it alot worse. I think 7 months is border line but I don't really know. Looking forward to hearing more posts. Hopefully from members who've sustained similar injuries

Injury update

I just spent a few days in Vegas and saw the doctor who performed the surgery on my hand. Dr. Sanders said he could no longer see the fracture line in my hand, and I should be able to begin hitting bags and mits within the week. He also said my ankle is very stable. He sees no reason why I could not fight by October. I hope to be back in the Octagon by then.

I'm sure Franklin is going to be in top condition. If he wasn't, I don't think he would risk it. Also, Bones are generally stronger when healed after a break.

Because I don't know for sure, I don't really want to argue or anything but I think that's subjective. Many atheletes have been prone to rebreaking old injuries

Actually it is a medical fact. Bones are made up of numerous calcium bonds that break apart when the bone suffers a trauma or a break. When the bonds reform they multiply thus increasing bone density and strengthening the bone. This is how many athletes strengthen their bones, not necessarily by breaking them but by causing trauma to their bones and forcing the calcium bonds to break and re-build. This is how Muay-thai practicioners strengthen their legs. The reason many athletes are prone to re occuring bone injuries is because of the constant use of those bones. Just because the bone is stronger does not mean that it is impervious to breaks. If Franklin is going to be slamming is fist into someones face for 5 rounds then I would say there is a good chance of him breaking it again even if it is fully healed. Also I do not think that the re-breaks athletes suffer occur in the same spot on the bone.

I dont know exactly what bones were broken.
"broken hand" doesn't really give too much to go off.
But I have broken my 5th metacarpal and 5th Proximinal Phalanx and I was fine and fighting after 90 days.

Franklin takes incredible care of his body, he's in phenomenal shape and I imagine his bones are pretty strong. You'd think he'd heal faster than the average person, and average he is not.
