Hi, I just stumbled upon kettle bells on youtube. Lots of mma fighters use them and I am also a mixed martial artist. My goal is to move up a weight class.(At least 20 pounds) With the proper diet and training, will it be better to use kettle bells as opposed to the gym? I would go to the gym but I run on a very tight schedule and I don't have time to drive to the gym everyday. How long would it take to achieve this goal?
Also- Are kettle bells good for major strength training?:confused02:

Imagine, doing this sort of lift and you will get the picture fairly quick.

Put your right hand between your legs as in a split and lift it above your head completely vertically with a 20-30 pound ball weighing you down.

kettle bells will help for strength and conditioning but not in your case. looking to gain weight? do heavy lifts and focus on the main ones: deadlifts, squats, clean and press. if youre looking to move up in weight you need to lift heavier weight and be able to increase your stregnth. 4-6 rep range and hit your max 1 rep lifts

Kettlebells would only make you more explosive, similar to slamming a medicine ball off the ground. Useful, but not what you're after. As A.B. said, heavy lifts on compound exercises will build mass, along with a high calorie and high protein diet.

Kettlebells good but NOT BEST for muscle mass

I would save kettlebells for your endurance & athletic performance type training like doing multiple one arm snatches but as for muscle - YES...

Do the basics

  • Compound lifts
  • Heavy weights 3-to-10 (or maybe even 3-to-12 rep rangs
  • proper rest & recovery along with nutrition but here's the #1 thing people miss...
To build muscle fast - you have to keep beating your last workout so you can get stronger because if you dont know...

A stronger muscle is a bigger muscle and if you keep using the same weight, reps and sets each workout then you cant get bigger & stronger

Building Muscle

There are a lot of different factors involved in building muscle but one of the main ones has to be a proper diet full of what your body needs to keep up with the demand you will be putting on it.

Protein Bars and Shakes are for convienance when your on the go. A diet that contains the proper nutrients you need while working towards your Muscle Building Goals will go the distance, if your ready to work!

You can forego that consumption if you really take hold of what your consuming and are getting the proper substitutes, with the right nutrition!

There are always different ways to improve and increase gains with and without the status quo but persistence and determination are among the best out there. Keep striving for more!
