Bisping: "I'm already spending my ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus against Akiyama"

Michael Bisping said:
“The British fans have always given me unbelievable support and I’ve never lost at home, so I am looking to help make this another special night for British MMA. Akiyama is a very dangerous guy. He strikes very well, he has power, and he will keep coming at you. He is very strong with his judo takedowns, and I will have to train seriously hard to come up for an answer for those. But I think that if I set a fast, hard pace in the first round, that by the third I will have taken over and will be in a position to finish him. Akiyama will obviously be looking to do the same thing – that is the way he always fights – and I am already spending my ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus in my head.“
Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 champion Michael Bisping returns to the United Kingdom where he remains undefeated with intent to vault himself into the middleweight title hunt with a big win over International star Yoshihiro Akiyama. "The Count" rebounded from a unanimous decision loss to Wanderlei Silva "Down Under" back on February 20 to outwork the venerable Dan Miller and take all three judge's scorecards at UFC 114 last May. Bisping is 3-2 in his last five fights with losses to Silva and Dan Henderson. In addition to Miller, the Brit also stopped Denis Kang at UFC 105 and decisioned Chris Leben way back at UFC 89. Is he championship material? Or do we reserve judgment for the "Sexyama" fight? And does anyone have them as front-runners for "Fight of the Night?"

Hardy/Condit is the favorite for fight of the night. Bisping/Akiyama is the favorite for knock out of the night when Bisping goes stiff in the first.

I'm no Bisping fan for certain, but I don't know where all the Akiyama will KO him talk is coming from. Has he KO'd anyone since he's been in the UFC and weren't most of his Japanese victories TKO's?

I'm not impressed with Akiyama, at this point there is alot to prove, personally I had him losing to Belcher, and after the way Leben handled him.....Bisping may be able to pull this out...

Has Bisping ever even been close to getting the FN bonus?
His fights don't thrill me at all unless he's getting KO'd (Thanks again Hendo,UDM!)

Quoted for truth, This is a hard fight to call for me though... Im certainly not impressed with the Brit but he is improving and its hard to measure how much exactly...

I put my money on Sexiama against Leben and he only needed to survive like 30 sec and couldn't so idk....

He has 2 FOTN Bonuses. After his fights with Elvis Sinosic (UFC 70) and Denis Kang (UFC 105).

I see Bisping taking this. I don't see Akiyama knocking him out, and he won't submit him. All Bisping needs to do is win one of the first 2 rounds because I don't see him losing the 3rd against a gassed Akiyama.

I did not realize that he had two FN bonuses. Bisping could very well take this fight in a decisive fashion and its obviously possible for him to be in a good fight, but it also take s both guys scrapping their hearts out to make a FOTN. Is Akiyama game?

Bisping has no power to offer Akiyama, but certainly has the angles and footwork. Akiyama has power to offer Bisping, and has a ridiculously good chin.

I hope sexyama wins, but I think we are in for yet another close 3 rounder.

Akiyama likes to keep fights competitive, in this one I'm hoping he does what it takes to win instead.

The only thing Akiyama needs to do is to come in 100%! If he shows up similar to the Belcher fight he should win this.

I really hope he does! It would be a shame if he isn't even able show us his true potential.

I hope that hot judo asian wins!!!

Seriously though, on paper this is a great fight. I hope Akiyama wins, but Bisping is a tough dude for anyone (not named Anderson Silva)
