Mine are worn out now and they were only cheap to get me started.

get the Hyabusa Shinguards. they are the boyos!

I got a pair and have never looked back since. Comfortable, well padded and well made. can't recommend them enough mate.

They're a bit more than I was hoping to spend, but if they're that good then it's probably worth it.

I think I might be able to get them in a local shop that gives members of my club 10% discount. £45 is better than £50 lol.

seconding hayabusa, they NEVER slide out of place like my cheaper pair, you're always garaunteed a quality product with these guys, definitely get what you pay for

they might be a little more pricey than others but well worth it.

what would be the better choice the pro striking shin guards or the pro shin/instep guards?

I will disagree with the Hayabusa guard. Especially the "well padded" bit. These are one of the most expensive least padded guards i have ever used. I personally find no difference whether im wearing a pair of these or going bare shin.I preferred bare shin to these when i was using them. Mine as well save the cash and get clothe if you are going to buy these.

imo Twins or Fairtex are the best bang for your buck.

I am considering the Hayabusa "pro striking shin guards" or a pair by Reign Full Contact, shin/instep guards. I was kind of surprised to see the Hayabusa "pro shin/instep guards" weren't leather. I am pretty sure I don't want a sleeve design (another reason nto to get the Haya pro shin/instep guards). They were tough enough to get on or off while my legs were non sweaty.

The padding on the Reign guards seemed thicker than the Hayabusa, and apparently is triple stitched rather than double. The only problem is the neoprene straps. On the Medium size, the straps fit well enough around my lanky shins, but they didn't come up that high. Maybe 4 inches below that soft spot, just below the knee cap, where Docs tap your knee for a reflex. The Large came up higher, but the straps just barely caught 3/4" on the top one. While the Hayabusa guards straps are pretty much all velcro so having enough space to have them catch isn't an issue.
