Yushin Okami


Easily the most sucessful Japanese star in the UFC, Okami has ammassed a very respectful record with the best MMA promotion in the world and has managed to do so flying under the mainstream radar, you could say he's the MW division's Jon Fitch.

Okami made some waves recently on the online communities with his dominant victories over a game Len Harris, he looks to be sharpening his striking game and becoming a even more well rounded threat to everyone in the MW division. A couple more of those performances could encourage the UFC powers to actually push him on the main cards and give him some higher profile fights building up to a title shot if he keeps on winning.

Meanwhile, the hardcores know he's on the mix somehow.

Dude is so underappreciated it ain't even funny- gets tagged with the "boring" label which is crap. He should have gotten his title shot but injury prevented it and Sonnen(much props) really shocked me in that fight but this guy is one of the best well-rounded MWs in the UFC. It looks like he learned from the Sonnen fight and looked great in his last fight and I'm still waiting for the UFC to move him up to fight the other "top" contenders. Even with the loss to Sonnen he is 8-2 in the UFC and deserves better treatment- Bisping would be destroyed by Thunder and I've long wanted to see Okami-Marquardt.

Love him.

He's the last Japanese fighter, who fights in the US, we have left. He looked amazing in his last fight, completely demolishing a really solid ground fighter. He turned it up, and dominated.

So yeah, Okami is awesome.

I Love him very much!

I hope that he get's his Title shot someday.. he deserves it so much. Sonnen said it best ones, Okami would never fight on the undercard if he could sell a fight better. He is just to good of a person for this rough business..

One word always comes to mind when I think of Okami: Meh. Don't dislike him, but don't particularly like him either.

Why? Because both of them tend to win majority of their fights by decision?
Kidding! But no, Okami is more like Dan Hardy of MW: Unknown by casual fans and a bit overhyped by more "hardcore" fans. He will never hold the belt or even be top 3 on his division and the highlight of his career will most likely be getting a title shot then seeing how far from the title he actually is when whoever holds the belt at that moment (prolly Sonnen) schools him.

I would say I still "love" him because even though he has Fitch-like tendency to drag the fights to decision he does have pretty solid skill set and usually puts up pretty good fights. Still a solid MW contender, but just not good enough to break into top 3.

He made a guy change a weight class because 'he's so strong'... that's fairly significant. He's a talented dude and people would care if he was actually marketed by the UFC.
