This is but one jab out of many, some of which have been quite good. The thing about Anderson Silva fans is, they claim that GSP fans and BJ fans are notoriously bad for ganging up on anyone who dares speak against their heroes, which is funny, given that Silva fans are much worse. I'm shocked Sonnen has yet to be lynched for daring to speak out against the mighty Anderson. Look at how upset people are getting over such a harmless remark, and this thread has only just begun!
There's a difference between statements like 'Silva is boring' and 'All GSP did in an MMA match was prove he could out-strike, out wrestle, and potentially out-submit me'. One actually warrants backlash. The other does not. One is ridiculous and bordering on the absurd. The other is a lighthearted jab, which is all most of Sonnen's comments have been. I just don't see the need to get upset or defensive. Look at the good that comes from it. Chael is winning fans with his witty retorts and ability to back them up... but he's also gaining a boatload of haters. He's generating interest all around, whether you want to see him untangle the web of The Spider, or get his teeth knocked down his throat.
How many people are talking about Silva vs. Maia? Two uber talented, yet soft spoken Brazilians are going to war on Saturday, and there's hardly been any discussion about either, let alone their upcoming bout. But how many people will be talking about Sonnen vs. Silva when their fight rolls around? I'd be willing to bet my account that these forums will be hustling and bustling that week. Smack talk, to an extent, is needed it seems. Even for us die-hard and hardcore fans. Chael is selling his fight, and selling it well, without being overly disrespectful... the difference, however, between he and someone like Dan Hardy is that you'll be able to rely on Sonnen to bring the noise in more ways than one come fight time.
