Like he did w/ Chuck Liddell back in PRIDE. Shinya Aoki has an extreme amount of pride for Japanese MMA and he seems to be challenging American fighters.

I'd love to see Dana White send BJ Penn to Japan. He has fought there several times in his past fights so his name would be relatively more-known compared to most other American fighters in Japan. Plus, the fact that Aoki is considered #2 LW in the world doesn't really leave much other options for anyone else. I would love to see this fight, and I heard Dana is looking to try to break into the Japanese market, and if Aoki claims that he loses to an American, "Japan would become a colony of US MMA", then maybe he should take him up on that and send in the mufukin calvary...

Would anyone else love to see BJ fight in Japan against there best P4P fighter? It would be epic and a nice throwback to the good ol' PRIDE days.

It would and it would be a relatively safe fight for Bj.

I'm not saying aoki couldn't submit Bj, but I see bj knocking aoki out a large amount of the time.

What does the UFC gain from it though? Dream gets a huge draw while the UFC has a champion not fighting on there cards which loses them revenue. It made sense before because Pride was the big dog in MMA. Its not the same for the UFC to send a fighter to Dream. Its like Dream sending a fighter to the UFC.

As much as we all would love to see the UFC cross promote, it's not gonna happen.

The UFC has too much to lose, not much to gain.

Chuck went to Pride as well as Ricco Rodriguez who had just lost the HW belt to Tim Sylvia, Wandy was supposed to come to the UFC. They even had Wandy step into the cage and stare down with Chuck. Well as we all know Pride opened there arms to Chuck then reneged on the deal and Dana has never looked at co-promoting again.

wow, finally some of you are finally admitting how overrated Japanese MMA is. Obviously am a fan of Aoki and jap MMA, but am not that naive to realise that most wouldnt do well in the western MMA ranks. I just wish people would stop ranking Alvarez, Kawajiri ect. in the top 5 of the LW's now, it just makes me laugh(and angry) every time.

what about it? what top rank western based fighters has Alvarez beat? Alvarez has built his name in Japan, so it depends on how highly you credit japanese MMA.
