So I had my first BJJ match earlier tonight and I won. I just started and it's been a little more than a month since I started and I still have way more to learn but I ask my instructor if I could participate in the competition and he said ok. He put me against a blue belt, which is one rank higher than white so there isn't too much of an experience gap. I did outweight the guy by maybe 10-15lbs but he was about 2 inches taller than me. For some reason I kept smiling and the guy, Matt, that I was going against ask me if I was going take him serious in our match, I told him yeah but for some reason I couldn't stop smiling, and I thought that was weird. Anyway we begin, and were grappling trying to get a feel for each other and he jumps to get me in his guard. I half ass block it by moving away and to the side, he did manage to get my arm and he is holding on. I'm thinking, crap I don't want to go to the ground yet because I'm afraid he will get me into a full armbar or maybe a kimura. I finally get him off of me and we start from the standing position again. He then trys to take me down with a single leg, and he does but on my way down, I roll using my extra 10-15lbs and after a brief struggle, I end up in the half guard. I rotate and get on top, then I finally wrap my legs around his left arm and head, then I slowly roll into a trianlge choke, and he pretty much knows whats coming next so he then taps out.

I didn't think I was going to win but I also didn't know who I was facing up I got there. I thought maybe I was going to fight someone maybe 2-3 belts higher. I still don't know why I was laughing, I was even laughing while applying the choke but I guess at that point we both knew it was older. I know Matt because we've sparred a couple of times and we hang out before, during and after class. He told me that I got lucky and that if he had to lose to somebody, he was glad it was me. I'm really enjoying BJJ but I also want to take kickboxing or even just regular boxing for my stand up game. I don't plan on doing any MMA but I would like to know that if it came down to it, that maybe I would be able to.

Yeah, I felt proud beating the crap out of a guy in my first black belt karate 13 year old B.C. tournament. But I'm 6'3 therefore my reach really helped me. It is awesome winning your first fight, whether its a tournament, school fight, makes you feel honoured unless its a girl, not cool . Props to you Kameleon, hope this made you forget about that kimura .

I love rolling with girls. It makes sure that I'm staying focussed. If I get distracted by :cough: other things then I'm gonna get submitted or kneed in the crotch. Those are both pretty undesirable.

Congrats on the Win, Kameleon.

I've rolled with girls before and it's alright. I rather roll with guys who are bigger, stronger or more experienced than me.
I had to wrestle a girl in my senior year of highschool at a tour. Needless to say I pinned her in 10 seconds. Kind of made me wonder why she wanted to be a wrestler but she was a good sport about it

wow that sucks man. I wouldn't be smiling. I mentally block out the fact that I'm fighting a girl and it works well. I have gone to the matt with a hot girl before but I wouldn't let myself mentally realize it till after the fight. It works well, and the thick gyi helps as well.

And If all else fails have you considered walking the dog before training?
