Hopefully just a rumor.....He was there at the fights last night, and nothing was mentioned, so hard to tell for sure. I wonder who would be in his place if he can not make it:dunno:

welll the #2 contender for the title is BJ Penn

It sucks but in a way I'm extremely excited because it might be BJ Penn instead! Hell yea! I doubt it will be Diego but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. BJ Penn vs. Matt Hughes 2 is waaaaaaaaaay better than Georges St. Pierre vs Matt Hughes 2..That doesn't mean GSP vs Hughes would suck, it would be great but BJ would be even greater!

I think St Pierre definitely deserves the title shot, but BJ is the better fight. I do want to see BJ fight in the UFC again before he gets a title shot. Maybe they can put off Hughes' defense for a little while and give us Sylvia v Monson.

I think Hughes will lose his title to BJ.

don't think GSP is out or else they'd probably announce it.

Yeah but Dana told BJ its okay if he fights in UFC just if he doesn't win the title since hes under contract with K-1 so if he did when it he would have to vacate it shortly. I swear to god if GSP is out I will riot. I was waiting for GSP .vs. Hughes 2 more then Silva .vs. Liddell.

The article says it will take him four weeks to recover and during this time he's been working on Cardio and Boxing. The only problem is he can't work on his grappling. Four weeks without doing serious grappling is going to hurt him when he faces Matt Hughes. Looks like Hughes gets another victory under his belt.

I don't think that GSP could do anything in the next month or so that would vastly improve his chances against Hughes. Hughes is world class and I think he is unstoppable at his best. Not to take anything away from GSP but he is fighting in an era against one of the greatest in his weight class. I think that BJ does not deserve a shot against Hughes if GSP cannot continue. He may be the number 2 contender but with Diego's impressive win against Karo I think that is arguable. (can't believe I just said that). I hate Diego. Karo diasppointed me. I am so tired of seeing these "world-class athletes" gas before 15 minutes. Work on cardio you idiots. I understand that there are mitigating circumstances but come on. Spar with people until you puke then do it again. When I was an athelete I never gassed. Soccer was the game and I ran an average of 11 miles per game. 2-3 games per day never came out of games. You must prepare.

Ya i think BJ deserves it for the fact that the GSP fight win was questionable seeing how BJ didn even look hurt and GSP was bloody.

But i agree this cardio shit is bad. In my first MMA fight i gassed in the 2nd round and lost due to TKO. I am a 4 time high school all state Soccer Player, Made state in swimming 3 years in a row as well. I thought i was in shape, untill i got a broken nose. Then i realized things aren't the same lol

I'd love the prospect of BJ Penn getting another shot at a title, but I'd be afraid he would be in fighting shape for a short notice fight... Especially against a guy of the caliber of Hughes (whos obviously at the top of his game)...

I will say it once and never again. BJ Penn can only fight top contenders and can't hold the title since hes under contract with K-1. Dana told him its okay to fight in the UFC as long as he doesn't have the welterweight title. Now stop talking about BJ Penn and start talking about GSP's injury issues which is what the thread is about.

Hey Rush , Do you have a actual source that says that ? Id be interested in reading that
I remember one of my best friends on this forum who is a loyal MMA fan (brownpimp88) giving me a source of it from MMAweekly but I can't find it on that site anymore. I read it and it said how BJ can't have the welterweight title since he has a huge contract with K-1 or something like that.

I don't see how that'll prevent BJ from fighting Hughes. In fact if BJ had won against GSP, it would have been BJ with the rematch against Hughes. The contract stuff would have just made it a non-title fight.
