I trained Muay Thai for a year. I know the basics. I mostly train BJJ but want some more stand up skills. The issue is I train 3 days a week and am sore. I also spend near 200 on my BJJ a month. So at the end of the day I think I will mostly just drill strikes on a bag once a week. I realize that my strike and throw game needs work to catch up with my BJJ. How good is the stand up of the average MMA fighter?

It all depends on how much time and effort you feel is worth investing.

If you're sore training 3 days a week. Depending on your routine, it is possible your body will acclimate to that over time and you will be able to do more. The routine that leaves you feeling sore now is something that you can normalize to a point where you'll be able to do it without feeling soreness. You only have to stick with it for months -> years. For most it may not be worth it. Their time and energy may better be spent elsewhere.

The average level of stand up in MMA is constantly on the rise. I think McGregor showed that when he boxed Floyd. Demetrious Johnson showed it recently when he did his kickboxing MMA crossover with Rodtang. It seems as if everyone is constantly evolving and improving, which is great.
