...than Maia.

I could see Palhares setting up leg lock attempts like a mug. I think it's going to take a strong, submission specialist, who can take a punch, to beat Anderson.

I think Maia has a shot. No doubt about it, but Paul Harris has the moves.

Discuss.

Im a proud member of the "Had this opinion from day 1" club. Hell, Pauly H.'s welcome to the UFC was Hendo and when is the other time we saw Hendo fight such an defensive fight....or get picked up and slammed? True though, Hendo won the fight but not before showing Paul Harris's granite chin. I guess I should be patient...I say Paul Harris is one more fight away but more likely he is two more fights away. Paul Harris IMO is the most likely candidate to beat Silva followed by Sonnen.

Maia would stomp a mudhole in Palhares' face. The only man on the planet that can even hold a candle to him in BJJ is Marcelo Garcia (And Marcelo beat him on POINTS). He's beaten a who's who of the grappling world time and time again and a guarantee you that Palhares would get crushed were they to fight. Not saying Maia has a great chance of beating Silva, but I don't think EITHER of them do TBH. If Silva gets past Sonnen and maybe Vitor I have no problem with him going to LHW or even HW.

I agree Maia > Palhares in a grappling match...

But the line of thinking for this thread is that Palhares has a better chin than Maia, as shown in his fight with Hendo.

As such, he's got a better chance of getting it to the ground (ability to close and weather Silva's striking), and gaining a sub.

I think you are overatting Maia's JJ a bit, yes he's elite but there ARE better than him of you go to the grappling world.

He's still a beast and one of the best BJJ who has found sucess in MMA.

Good argument. But it all depends on "IF he cand take it to the ground".
Both Maia and Palhares have the same chances against Silva imo.

I agree. Toquinho would has a better chance of beating Ando than Maia.

Ando's weakness...

I know it's been a while lol

Why does everyone think Maia is going to do well? Has everyoen forgot about him getting owned by Maquardt who isn't near the level of striker Silva is. This fight will be over quick.

ummm maia jumped straight into him it had nothing to do with the "greatness" of nate because we all seen what happened to the "great" one with sonnen who got subbed by maia which shouldn't have happened because nate stopped maia so how come chael beat maia.

vitor beat rich very quickly so that means he will beat sila aswell very quickly
