When one Canadian goes, another arrives.

A source close to the event informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today that UFC veteran Jason MacDonald (24-13 MMA, 5-5 UFC) will face John Salter (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on the non-televised portion of "UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun II."

Salter was due to face UFC veteran David Loiseau, but "The Crow" was not cleared by the Montreal Athletic Commission, as earlier reported by The Canadian Press.

UFC 113 takes place next Saturday, May 8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's the third UFC event on Canadian soil and precedes the promotion's June trip to British Columbia, Canada for UFC 115 in Vancouver. Both shows quickly sold out.

MacDonald, a resident of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is currently riding a three-fight win streak in regional promotions. The submission specialist appeared on both of the UFC's previous Canadian cards, though his most recent appearance prompted a release from the promotion when he lost a second consecutive fight to Nate Quarry by TKO at UFC 97 in Montreal.

However, MacDonald has racked up three "Submission of the Night" honors and one "Knockout of the Night" in his 10 UFC appearances. He burst onto the scene in late 2006 with back-to-back submission wins over former Team Quest teammates Ed Herman and Chris Leben.

Salter, 25, lost to Gerald Harris by TKO in his octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 21 in January. It was his first career setback after four consecutive stoppage wins.

Good to see him back. Deserves a return to the Octagon after 3 straight victories over guys that have fought for the UFC. Looking forward to seeing how this fight goes. This card is looking awesome. Every fight on the Main card is fantastic, and there are a few potential great fights on the Prelim card too. Roll on May 8th!

nice to see him back, i just Wish Travis Lutter would come back now although its very unlikely, but Lutter with good cardio would be a beast, he was tooling Franklin and A. Silva in the first round until he gassed.

Yeah I'd love to see an in shape Lutter back in the UFC, he's got serious talent and so far it's pretty much gone to waste because of his cardio.

And glad to hear J Mac is back, entertaining fighter and had a war with Maia on the ground

Also glad to see him back. I was actually at the River Cree Casino the day his fight was with Horwich. Didn't realize they were having an event there until I saw Big John McCarthy sitting across from us eating lunch lol. Heard afterwards that MacDonald won.

Lutter with Cardio would easily be a top 10 guy, everyone who fights A.Silva from now on should watch the first round of Lutter/Silva, even if just to show themselves Silva is human!

Macdonald may have got the decision but he did not win that fight, I sat maybe 15 feet from the cage, Horwich dominated him clinching and repeatedly kneeing him in the first round on top of managing to take him down. Horwich followed it up with more of the same in a slightly more competitive 2nd. In the 3rd round Macdonald went out with a vengeance and took the fight to Horwich who could only try and hold on and keep J-Mac from posturing up and doing any damage. I have some serious questions about the credibility of the River Cree Athletic Commission bowing to the will of the crowd when J-Mac fights. After the fight Macdonald looked pissed off and disappointed while Horwich celebrated and kind of put on a cocky act for the booing crowd (Matt was doing push ups and trying to show he was still ready to go despite doing virtually nothing in the 3rd). The fact that Macdonald won was wrong, the fact a judge actually gave it to him 30-27 was absolutely ludicrous.

If you were there did you get a chance to meet Dan Henderson? He was at the Live bar in there after the event mingling and chatting with fans.

Ooh, didn't realize you were from Alberta as well!

I saw that Henderson was there but didn't see him though. I just happened to be there for lunch with family and didn't realize there were fights going on until I got there and saw a couple posters.

I wouldn't doubt that the River Cree Athletic Commission is sketchy though.

Yeah I'm from Red Deer.

The event is pretty affordable and they did a good job, we bought $65 rush seating in the gold section and waited at the front of the line early. got great seats.

Big freakin' deal, I never liked McDonald. He's a cocky boring fighter, I have no clue who this Salter is but hopefully he'll send him packing for good this time.
