The California State Athletic Commission medically suspended 11 fighters from this past weekend's World Extreme Cagefighting event, "WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber."

The event took place April 24 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and the main card aired on pay-per-view. Two of the evening's preliminary bouts were also aired on Spike TV.

Among those suspended was headlining fighter and former champ Urijah Faber, who sustained several vicious kicks to his left thigh in the course of his featherweight title bout with current champion Jose Aldo.

Faber is suspended six months or until he is cleared by a physician for his left thigh and knee injury and suspended 45 days as a precautionary measure.

Unsurprisingly, the card's "Fight of the Year" candidate between Leonard Garcia and Chan Sung Jung produced suspensions for both. Garcia is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a possible right hand fracture (which he disclosed after the fight). Jung, meanwhile, is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a right distal ulna shaft fracture (the distal ulna is in the forearm near the wrist), as well as two months for a facial laceration.

Former featherweight champion Mike Brown, who sustained his first career knockout loss to Manny Gamburyan, is suspended 45 days as a precautionary measure.

Bantamweight Antonio Banuelos is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a possible nasal fracture. His opponent, Scott Jorgensen, is also suspended six months or until medically cleared for a possible left metacarpal fracture.

Fast-rising lightweight Anthony Pettis defeated Alex Karalexis during the Spike-televised portion of the event but did not emerge unscathed. Pettis is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a fracture in his right foot.

Brad Pickett is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a left clavicle fracture. His opponent, Demetrious Johnson, is suspended six months or until medically cleared for a dislocation and fracture of his right thumb.

Brandon Visher, who suffered a TKO loss to Tyler Toner, is suspended 45 days as a precautionary measure.

WEC 48 medical suspensions: Faber's six-month order leads list of 11 fighters
Pretty major medical suspensions those, especially Fabers. His leg must be majorly jacked for him to be suspended for 6 months. Aldo has some serious leg-kicks! The others were to be expected, given they're either fractures or breaks. Looks like it'll be a while till we see Garcia vs Jung II.

Not all that surprised with these. When you get beaten up like that you need some time off.

I am going to be so disappointed if Faber has to sit out for awhile. He just got back but I expected his leg to be smashed up after what Aldo did to it. I am not all that surprised that Garcia/Jung messed some things up either.

As always: The fighters generally get cleared by doctors long before their default suspensions are up.
