In both encounters Shogun was unable to even move Machida, and this time Machida threw Shogun to the mat. Shogun's slick ground work enabled him to get up, but I think it shows that Machida has another weapon that he could use more in the future. He out wrestled Ortiz too, he is as strong as they come.

His striking is not made for aggressive and high level muay thai and his defense got exposed again, but he could easily have turned it into a grappling match and probably won some rounds like that.

I think Machida is still no 2 in the division and would smash Rashad, Rampage and Nog. He's a nightmare for wrestlers because of his TDD and strength, and if he faced Shogun again he should fight a more rounded fight and stay elusive on the feet because Shogun is too much for him there.
