The long-rumored light heavyweight contest between Matt Hamill (7-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Jon Jones (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is now official.

The UFC officially announced the contest overnight, and the fast-rising prospects will meet at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

The Hamill vs. Jones bout is the sole official contest for the Dec. 5 card at The Palms Casino & Resort. Tickets for the event go on sale later this week.

Jones looks to continue his meteoric rise up the ranks of the UFC's 205-pound division. The undefeated youngster, just 22 years old, has earned wins over Jake O'Brien, Stephan Bonnar and Andre Gusmao in his first three octagon bouts.

Meanwhile, Hamill, a former cast member of "The Ultimate Fighter 3," will be looking to build on the strength of two-straight wins. Back-to-back impressive victories over Mark Munoz and Reese Andy have garnered the 32-year-old some well-deserved buzz, putting behind the sting of a September 2008 loss to Rich Franklin.

The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale tickets go on sale to the general public on Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. EST (12 p.m. PST). However, UFC.com newsletter subscribers can purchase tickets beginning at 1 p.m. EST on Oct. 16, and UFC Fight Club members can buy tickets starting Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. EST.

The complete card for the event currently includes:

* Finalist No. 1 vs. Finalist No. 2
* Matt Hamill vs. Jon Jones
* Frankie Edgar vs. Kurt Pellegrino*
* Dennis Hallman vs. John Howard*
* Mark Bocek vs. Matt Veach*
* Lucio Linhares vs. Rousimar Palhares*

* - Not officially announced

Rogan will continue to tell me that Hamill's stand-up looks so much improved. My question is how long can it continue to improve and still look like shit? Sure, it's better than it's non-exsistence back when Matt was on TUF, and Matt does have a solid chin, but he has never impressed me on his feet. I guess I expect the transformation Koscheck has made with his stand up as the benchmark from a one-dimensional wrestler to a well-rounded mmartist.

Anyways, Jon Jones is going to give Matt a lot of trouble. Not only does Jones have the crisper striking, but he will match Matt's physical strength. This will aid him with putting Hamill on his back where Jones should finish with some g'np for a ref stoppage.

I saw on someother site that Jones was almost completely disregarding Hamil. I think Jones is the next big thing in the UFC. Nobody likes that kid more than me, I promise. But reading some of what he said on another site, he thinks his wrestling is too much for Hamil and that Hamil is not a threat on his feet. I really hope Jones wins, but if he disregard Hamil that easily, I think Hamil will drop him. Hamil has very heavy hands and some of the best wrestling in the UFC. His standup is pretty horrible to watch, if you're into good fluid technique, but his hands are absolutely deadly. Hamil is one of the most physically strong fighters in the division and if he can connect with one of his disgusting, winging, terrible looking punches, he can drop anybody. The big thing that gets me is that Jones wasnt concerned with Hamils wrestling at all. That's a joke. I want Jones to win, but Hamil might take it. I'll post the link to what Jones said when I find it.

Looking forward to this one. Jon Jones is the next big thing. I think he'll be too much for Hamill. I am a fan of Hamill's, but Jones is the technically better guy and he is explosive and exciting as well.

Regarding Hamill's striking, it has improved but not as much as Rogan would like to point out. He is still sloppy with his punches and keeps his hands too low in the later rounds. Jones should land a few solid shots to that chin of his.

Hammill has a nice story but in reality he has some of the worst stand-up I've ever seen in MMA. He leads with his chin alot, he doesn't keep his hands up, and his punches are really slow, loopy, and telegraphed. His wrestling is good but his cardio has always been questionable and I think he will struggle to close the distance and take Jones down. Jon Jones by Ahniliation.

He better land some insane punches to Hamill's chin, otherwise he stands a good chance of being outwrestled.

I like Jon Jones but underestimating Hamill is a terrible mistake.

I think Jones is going to smash the Hammer, pick him apart standing and stuff his takedowns until Hammil is tired and then gets finished. I really dont see how Hammil can finish Jones only chance is a Lay n Pray decision IMO and I dont even know if he will be able to take him down.

Agreed that Hamill needs a lay n pray to win, but he's stronger and a better wrestler, so I see that happening. Who knows though, Hamill seems to like to stand lately which is insane...it's like he can't hear his coaches! Oh man, had to do it.

From what I have seen Jon Jones wrestling ability and his throws work alot better in MMA than Hammils wrestling. He may not be the better wrestler but he uses his skills and technique a lot better than Hammil does. Hammil usually turns the fight into a boxing match and if that happens here he will get tooled on the feet.
