I cant see any of them leaving anytime soon, rumors were circling about Baroni's UFC return, but hes been on a roll over in PRIDE....I just wish Dana scooped Ruthless back up before PRIDE got him

Because its not smart economically.

Why would you pay a guy a large sum of money if your not going to make it back plus a good profit? No body in the US knows who those guy's are so its not like their presence on a card is going to draw a significantly bigger PPV buy or house gate.

I disagree with this. I doubt that anyone knew who these fighters were before they fought in Pride. The way that you make you money back is to have them put on great fights. Have them fight several times and show the fans who they are and what they are capable of. Have them show their talents with the contenders and then give them a title shot.

There is nothing wrong with farming your investment instead of a quick turn over for money.

And if your plan doesn't work out (i.e they lose, they don't draw much attention from the fans, they get injured, ect.) your out a shit load of money.

Its much easier and profitable to get an unkonwn fighter from the US for minimal starting pay and build him up than it is too sign a (unkown in the US)Pride guy for a lot of money and than have to build him up as well.

I still that that the odds are in your favor to take the proven fighter and use him. It takes YEARS to get a truely unknown and untested fighter ready to be a household name. You can get one that is, just not so much in this country, and start to showcase him. Hell, look at Anderson Silva, he turned in to a superstar with two quick fights.

There is no reason to think that it can't happen again.

Now that the LWD is taking off get a Charles Bennett or a Gomi. I would love to see these guys in the UFC. Some of the most exciting fighters out there.

First law of business - "You gotta speculate to accumulate"

UFC hould start poaching in a big way otherwise Pride might well start getting more and more of their fighters...

UFC had a chance to do exactly this by signing Quinton Rampage Jackson. I thought he would fit the UFC perfectly because of his personality and fighting style. Of course he also beat Chuck in Pride so that would have setup a big rematch between those two. Also Chuck is 37 so it would have been smart to have another big star in the wings to take his place when he begins to decline. So when they didn't sign him, I was hugely dissappointed. A 205lb division with Chuck, Tito, and Rampage would have been awesome.

IMO it looks like UFC at the moment doesn't feel like they need to sign any more big names and thus pay big money in order to succeed. It's like a basketball team where you have a few highly paid superstars and the rest are average, maybe UFC feels they have enough superstars now?

I think that's a mistake as you grow the sport by putting superstar fighters out there. For example more people watched golf because of Tiger Woods.
Maybe when they feel a little more desperate will they shell out the money for another big fighter.

I partially agree, but look how quick the guys from TUF got popular.......not years, just a little tv show and a few fights.

I think it would be great to get a pride bigshot, but we all know if will never happen. I don't know how much they make over there, but UFC has no real reason to pay any of them high amounts of money unless they come to UFC and earn it. When it all comes down, they are going to want money, unless they just want out of Pride. If I was in UFC and Pride wanted me to come to Japan to fight, even offering a little more, I would never go. I would never expect any of those guys to come here either.

There is a post in the Pride part of this Forum that talks about what Pride fighters make. I was shocked. I always thought that Pride pays WAY more. They don't, go take a look.

I think the UFC should just raid the WFA.

Salavary
Jackson
Faber
Herring
Razor Rob

and Lindland although no longer under contract with the WFA.
