Theres has been a little debate on this subject, but nothing compared to what i was expecting TBH. It was a very close fight i think everyone will agree on that, but who did you have winnig the fight?

Honestly, i had BJ winning on mine. I think he defintely won the first two, although still tough to score, but the better shots from BJ give him the clear advantage i thought, Frankies TD in the 2nd was pointless i thought as BJ was back up with in 5 seconds with no damage done. The 3rd and 4th were really close and could go either way but i gave gave the 3rd to BJ for the cleaner more powerful strikes and Frankies failed TD attempts. the 4th i gave a 10-10 and the 5th Frankie was just way more active and i gave him that round.

I actually just watched this fight and it was razor close and especially compared to the Machida-Shogun fight I would have thought that the decision would been given to BJ. This really shows that MMA fights this close you never EVER know how exactly the judges are scoring the fight. Edgar was more active and BJ faded but the scoring was very very close IMO. BJ it appears lost this late when he slowed down and last images immediately after the fight can influence decisions late as Frankie raised his hands and BJ went straight to his corner to rest. But that doesn't changed rounds scored previously- compared to what Shogun was able to do against Machida I honestly cannot see how Machida won that fight when so many people stated you have to beat the champ convincingly compared to this fight.

I'm not upset BJ lost but when you compare this fight to Machida-Shogun and what happened in both fights it only shows you have absolutely no idea how the judges will score a fight even if a champion is involved.

Look at both fights and tell me which challenger did more to beat the champ. Was there that much of difference for one judge to score it Edgar 50-45? :dunno:

I gave BJ round 1-4 and Edgar the 5th so 49-46 BJ. However, all the rounds were pretty close. The 5th round was really the only one that was indisputable in my eyes. I was very surprised by the decision but when you have a bunch of close rounds and a must scoring system stuff like this happens.

I Agree 100%

This should be Penn vs Edgar 2 fight.

I had round 5 for Frankie, 10-9.

As far as the first four rounds. Hmmmm....

I thought BJ was the aggressor through the first four. IMHO, he landed the harder, crisper, more accurate punches. I thought he landed more frequently as well.

On the other hand, I reveled in the success of an undersized, scrappy, likable, hardworking underdog like Frankie.

Round 2 could've been scored for Frankie as well.

Which would give BJ the 'W' at 49/46 or 48/47.

I was pretty astonished to hear "...and NEW..."

All of the main event/headliner bouts were strange, which oddly enough, made this one of the most interesting UFC's in recent memory.

Really could have went either way but I had it 48-47 Edgar, round 1-2 for Penn.
Bj round 1 - 2 was not decisive ether. People that complain the most about that decision is becauz of fightmetric but some time i believe number are kind of wrong with them. I believe most of the power shot of bj was neutralize by edgar with is fluid movement. Edgar rolled with bj punch all nite. I love bj but come on where was the gas tank in the final round.... I dont buy the knee thing ether with is pad, He had the same one vs Hughe 2 i believe

50-45 for Edgar, but 2 of the rounds were pretty close and could have gone for BJ too. Basically I was fine with the 48-47 one of the judges scored it (one scored it 50-45 like I did too though), but it would have been a serious robbery if BJ had won it.

Edgar, 48-47

BJ clearly won the first 2 rounds imo and Frankie got the last 3, with the TD in the final round helping him win the 5th.

50-45 was a complete joke...I don't see how you could give Frankie either the 1st or 2nd, much less BOTH of them. And there's no way Frankie won a 10-8 round either.

I had round one for BJ, two and three for BJ(these were super close but i went with the "You have to beat the champion" theory to seal them for BJ, and 4 i had Edgar winning by a thin margin, and 5 clearly for Edgar. I saw it as 48-47 for Penn, but 1-4 were very close and I can see Edgar getting the decision. This was a very close fight so I can't really say BJ got robbed, but i personally didn't think Edgar did enough to win a decision over a champion.

I actually thought Penn won rounds 1 and 2 pretty easily. Edgar boucned around a lot but whiffed on most of his punches. Three and four were really close, I gave round 3 to Penn and round 4 to Edgar. Edgar clearly won round 5.

I had it 48-47 for Penn. But honestly, I didn't really think it was a robbery or anything. At the end of the 5th round I really thought it could have gone either way.

I had BJ winning, and scored it virtually the same as this. I think the main things that swayed it in the judges eyes, were that Frankie looked so much busier with constant movement, and the little marks under BJ's eyes, coupled with Edgar pushing the fight in the last round got him the win.
It was definitly close, and I can't really complain if either fighter won. There were two things that puzzled me though, and they were A) I couldn't help thinking why BJ either bothered staying up when Edgar tried to take him down, as I felt standing pre fight was Edgars only chance of victory, and B)how the one judge scored it by a 4 to 5 point difference in Edgars favour, when the fight was tighter than a nuns (uh hmm ).

I thought that BJ had won the first 3 rounds, but everybody who was watching with me thought that Edgar had every round but the first. To be honest though I had too much to drink, so I don't think my opinion is worth much...

EDIT:

To add some more content:

I felt like BJ was definitely landing harder and crisper shots. The first takedown Edgar landed didn't mean anything as far as I'm concerned, because BJ was on the ground for less than two seconds. Frankie definitely threw more and landed some good leg kicks, but I would score solid shots to the face above leg kicks any day. Also, while Edgar threw in flurries, it didn't look like all too many of those strikes landed until the later rounds -- to my admittedly inebriated eyes anyway...
