There's no doubt about it, most of the UFC fighters nowadays are in some of the best shape you can get in.

As someone who is very in to fitness, and have used a few supplements: protein, creatine, l-glutamine I would like to know more.

A lot of my buddies who REALLY know their stuff (about steroids & body building) say guys like GSP for SURE use them...

HGH for example is out of your system in 24-48 hours and is one of the major ones being used today as it is basically organic (I think, I don't know much about it).

I'm curious to see how many of you think that a lot of fighters use them and just don't get caught.

From what I have learned, I think they do. At the BARE minimum they use what I use, if not HGH or others...

Thoughts?

***whoops on spelling error for poll. athletes... ;)

i think alot of fighters use them, simply for recovery...i cant believe someone can go in a 9 or 12 week trainingcamp without getting injuries.

so yes i think they are used for quick recovery from injuries.

Fact is there are certain guys that have tested positive, chris leben, and certain guys that havent tested positive in the ufc, but have done them and are still feeling the benefits, BROCK F'N LESNAR.

my honest opinion, BAN THEM. not 9 months like leben got, LIFE. too harsh? screw em they cheated and got caught.

oh hell yes they do. Even the amateurs are on Growth & various roids. Anavar has been dubbed the fighters steroid because it leaves the system so quick and it's a fat shredder/strength builder, as oppose to building large bulky muscles.

I'm sure all fighters in the UFC use some sort of performance enhancer, whether it's a supplement, or a shake, or whatever. However, there's a difference between that, and claiming they're using illegal performance enhancing drugs. Sure there are guys that have used them, but in the US they have to go through drug testing, and hence the guys using them have been caught. Pretty pointless discussing it though really, because until someone is caught, it's all conjecture and guess work.

That's how I see it. Plus, the performance enhancing drugs issue can be debated to the death. The pro's & cons can be argued from a philosophical, even scientific stand point with an infinite spectrum of technicalities.

Yeah exactly. Without random testing going on throughout the year, and heaps of guys proven to be taking illegal performance enhancers, it's all conjecture.

When there's money and fame involved there will always be people who try to take a short cut. Although I'm a big fan of his Overeem surely looks like a user and with Brock's "illness" I wonder if that's the excuse they'll use when he comes in at no where near the mass and low body fat he initially had. Until random testing thru out the year of fighter's is instituted we'll never know how many guys or gals (Cyborg Santos stands up when she pee's) are using illegal enhancers.

I was recently going through a bulking phase... going for muscle mass. I'm thinking if I eat like a champ, work hard, I know I will get bigger. But the SCARY part is, I could literally be TWICE as big in HALF the time.

So if you are working your ass off in the gym, and see guys getting way better results then you, well if that's how you make your money you don't really have a choice.

I think there should be 2 leagues like in Bodybuilding. First for natural, eating right guys. And the second for steroid FREAKS that are 5'7 260. Haha :thumb02:

If you’re trying to make the case for the high level of athleticism and freakish performance of MMA fighters I could also point to the fact that the sport is now considered “legit” by the salaries of the top fighters (and don’t be a fool and only use their fight purses to determine their annual income).
MMA is on mainstream TV, mainstream sports programs, news print and even in movies and pop culture.

Another factor is the NUMBER of fights we see; you can do the math and understand that statistically the pool of fighters is much larger than in the past thus the top fighters are almost genetically selected (assuming they all train similar styles and levels).

But yea, where there is a big pay day and fame there will be ways to cheat.
Just look at professional cycling, probably the most highly tested sport out there and STILL they have scandals over performance enhancing drugs.

I would rather possess a good work ethic and good genetics than a good pharmacist.

In the end the same fighters are going to win, drugs can’t overcome superior genetics, work ethic and fight strategy.

Well if your close, then they will make the difference between good and great. Not sure if
UFC is really interested in strenuous testing (Leben was like a sacrificial lamb) as it would only hurt the bottom line. Maybe if a bunch of guys die early, like pro-wrestlers, then maybe they will do serious testing. Until then, everyone should be considered innocent until proven guilty, imho.

If you hold a license in Nevada (pretty much every UFC fighter will since its there home) then your subject to random testing at any time not just when preparing for a fight.

A guy like GSP does not have to be on anything. Some people are just naturally athletic and once they start working out it piles on. I got a budy who works as a mechanic, never works out ever and is still ripped with a six pack. A lot of it is genetics, despite what your teachers told you life is not fair and you can't be what ever you want to be. The reality is that most of us no matter how hard we worked could become an elite level athlete as we just don't have the genes for it.

Use common sense at least 90% of them are using HGH. Why? They don't test for it. They just made a test a couple months ago that will show postive HGH results. They are using in minor league baseball. They tried in Football but the NFL players Union went crazy when they asked to test the NFL players..lol.

Just imagine if random piss samples were kept of fighters for the future untill HGH testing and steriod testing was more advanced. We would all be surprises by the results. Or would we really be surprised. The question is "is it really cheating if evryon is doing it?"

As much as it hurts to think about I don't doubt a lot of them have or do take supplements.

The thing is it's so easy to cheat on a drug test these days if you know what you are doing. If they don't watch you you can substitute with a synthetic urine, someone else's urine or you can even use a detox drink to mask...i've even heard of professional athletes getting a catheter inserted into their penis filled with clean urine...

We aren't talking about the ma and pa stick the piece of paper into the piss test that you get for work here. Testing is alot more advanced than what 99% of the private sector uses.

There is no doubt in my mind that professional athletes of all kinds use PED's. Many many years ago I supplied a couple of NHL players during their time off in the summer when they came back home. Here's the catch 22 about PED's: there's more money in using them and keeping the technology ahead of the detection than there is money in the technology of detecting them in tests. In other words, doctors and chemists who design the drugs get more money for them than governments, agencies or sporting associations have to develop methods of detection.

To say that GSP is a steriod user is the most hurtful thing you can say to the guy.

He is the most true athlete you will ever come by, this is his life, and his business. He would not do anything that would jeopardize his life/health or his fans/career.

for sure.

For years and years i had to defend my favorite baseball player, Arod. I mean look at him, yea a bit bigger but not a huge head or anything. Really humble and into his fans. he would NEVER do that, thats for meatheads like Big Mac and Sosa....

oh wait.

i think if ppl really knew the amount of athletes doing PEDs they would be really disappointed. I know kids who do PEDs and they are only in the OHL.
