I'm looking to buy my son a new gaming system for christmas. I don't know which way to go on this because I have never played either one. Can anyone give me some pro's and con's of these systems and which one you think is the best.

playstation 3 has a blue ray player X-box has a DVD player with it and the playstation network lets him play online for free where X-Box live cost money.
Also with the playstation network you can download PSone classics.

Beside that its about the same the big difference is which games he wants you cant get games like halo on ps3 however you cant get GOD of war of war on X-box 360.

you pick

The Xbox 360 tends to overheat at times and like the above post states, it does not have a blue ray player. I like the xbox because of the games. I am a huge Halo fan. Now that the Ps3 is around a decent price, it is really up to you. I have never owned a Ps3 so I can't make any accurate statements about it.

Not trying to debate with you. Just pointing out that Call of Duty is available for the Xbox 360 as well.

PS3 easily. Only thing the 360 has that beats out the PS3 is better online mode and PS3 is actually getting better with that.

Most games now are multi-platform, PS3 has a built in blu-ray, don't have to pay for online, better graphics, better controller (imo). I'd go PS3.

Not to mention most people that own 360s are on their second or third one. Never know when that thing is going to crap out on you. I've had my PS3 for about 2 years now and no problems.

I mean if you want the 360 for Halo or Gears I could see that. But everything else is beneficial towards the playstation.

I love my 360. Alot of cool games and NETFLIX! The newer ones don't overheat like the older versions. Unless you want BLU RAY I'd go with the 360. I also heard that microsoft was gonna decrese the price of online gaming and such and hopefully cut it out all together would be nice. All in all whatever you get is gonna be good. Both are good systems and both have reduced prices:thumb02:

360 is so much better such better interface and netflix and better games. I mean playstation used to have the advantage with GTA exclusivity but really now that it's on 360 as well, what's the point of having a ps3?

Already mentioned why. And aside from Halo and couple of other overrated first person shooters, exclusive 360 games are coming to PS3 as well. More reliable hardware, blu-ray, better graphics, and free online, along with the Netflix deal in the works.

You asked.

hi hi hi there!

the ps3 controllers are not as comfortable and don't have those nice pressure sensitive triggers. and it's more expensive. i mean if you can get the same games on both, go for the cheaper one.

eggy-wegs! why i want to smash them!

It's more expensive because it's a better deal.

I will admit, I like the triggers on the 360, but overall the PS3 (or playstation period) controller is more comfortable but that's just a matter of opinion.

I own a 360. Invested in one about 6 months ago because I got a really good deal and if I wanted similar with the PS3 I'd have to pay £100 more.

If you love online gaming, you really have to go with the 360. Yes, there is an added price but I'd gladly pay a small fee if it meant a superior experience.

However if you aren't too bothered about online, then the Blu-Ray player built into the PS3 will probably sway you (as long as you have a HDTV to play it on).

Technically the PS3 is the more powerful machine, but at the moment you won't see much difference in quality because the developers have a harder time getting the most out of the console. In a few years that will likely change, but at the moment there isn't much of a difference in graphics between the two consoles, in my opinion.
